         <description><![CDATA[<div>My name is Dashiell Cordon. I don't have a middle name or have a long list of lastnames, although I do come from a family that has that tradition. I grew up in Miami and have traveled back and forth between Miami and Guatemala since I was around 5 years old. My home campus was Wolfson but it is now Padron.<br><br></div><div>I am a big time foodie. I would definitely have to consider Mexican food my all-time favorite food. I love all the flavors in their dishes and the way that every dish seams similar, but they all have something different about them in one way or another. A fun fact about me is that I am considered a spice chaser by my friends and family, even though most if not all the times I cannot handle how spicy the food is. At family dinners I often times am the entertainer because of my food choices or extreme spice level dishes.<br><br></div><div>In terms of the future and my career, I'd love to be a teacher. I believe it's important to be able to help out the next generations and guide them towards good and bad. Honestly, If possible I wouldn't mind staying here in Florida. It's where my family is and familiarity is an advantage in my opinion. My goals include maxing out my career as far as I can go and in the end settling down in Guatemala where all of my family is located. As you may be able to tell being with family is definitely what's most important to me.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Using 'Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning' is a great way to help you respond to friends or family. For example, in the video the example is turtles and Pinky wondering where they go during the winter. If your friend suddenly started acting differently, you'd come up with questions like, "What happened to them?" or "Have I possibly done something to cause this?". This would lead to you making a claim 'My friend is acting strange now that we don't speak as much". Your next step following the C.E.R path is Evidence or Data, In this example we can use data such as the different tone they're using when speaking to you, or text messages between you and your friend when the two of you hangout in contrast to when there's distance, or your observation on how your friend was then vs now. Once you've gathered all your information you will have your reasoning, "My friend is acting strange now that we don't talk as much, I can infer this because when we separate for a while their tone changes and we are more likely to talk less".</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The sand cat (Felis margarita) is a small wild cat that inhabits sandy and stony deserts far from water sources. With its sandy to light grey fur, it is well camouflaged in a desert environment. Its head-and-body length ranges from 39–52 cm (15–20 in) with a 23–31 cm (9.1–12.2 in) long tail. Its 5–7 cm (2.0–2.8 in) short ears are set low on the sides of the head, aiding detection of prey moving underground. The long hair covering the soles of its paws insulates its pads against the extremely hot and cold temperatures in deserts.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Will there be another pandemic in your lifetime?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I chose the video "Will there be another pandemic in your lifetime?". The video talks about historic pandemics such as The Black Death, The 1918 Flu Pandemic, and Covid-19. Although we may think about pandemics as something impossible or hard to come by, they really aren't. Scientists have annually estimated the risk of a Covid-19-level pandemic to be 0.5%. Just between 1980-2020 we had three catastrophic events, HIV in 1980; Swine FLU in 2009, and Covid-19 in 2020. These diseases are fairly common all around the world; some are less deadly than our latest global pandemic, but they still greatly impact us. There's many factors that play into how a pandemic is spread, but it usually begins with a Pathogen; from there the host passes it on to the human, and just like the domino effect, many others start getting sick. But how likely is it for us to come across another Covid-19-like pandemic in the next 75 years? Scientists have estimated the answer to be a 78% chance. So, although the percentage isn't low, we've come across new tools to help make these pandemics less destructive.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Sand cats live in three distinct regions of the world: Africa's Sahara desert, which stretches through Algeria, Niger and Morocco; throughout the Arabian peninsula; and in parts of central Asia including Turkmenistan, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.<br><br></div><div>Sand cats prefer a very dry, arid habitat with little vegetation, for which they are well adapted. They are sand-dwelling creatures, inhabiting dry plains and rocky valleys where conditions are extreme. Surface temperatures can reach 124 degrees Fahrenheit (51 degrees C) during the daytime, then drop to as low as 31 degrees Fahrenheit (-0.5 degrees C) at night. This species prefers flat or rolling terrains, and will retreat to burrows when temperatures become too extreme.<br><br></div><div>Due to the importance of burrowing and digging to sand cats, they are not found in areas where soil is compacted. Sand cats eat primarily small rodents, occasionally hares, birds, spiders, insects and reptiles. They are fearless snake hunters—their prey can include venomous vipers and other snakes. Living in a relatively desolate habitat, sand cats are opportunistic feeders out of necessity. Like many desert-dwelling species, sand cats can survive without drinking water for weeks at a time. The active site consists of amino acid residues that form temporary bonds with the substrate (binding site) and residues that Catalyse a reaction of that substrate (catalytic site). This species thrives in the desert a place most animals wouldn't dare to even come near. This species will be impacted by climate change due to its environment. Scholars state only 18% of the desert is currently suitable for the Sand Cat. This is because Sand Cats prefer areas with high mean annual temperature instead of high annual precipitation.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My species is the Sand Cat. The sand cat is part of an evolutionary lineage that is estimated to have genetically diverged from the common ancestor of the Felis species around 4.44 to 2.16 million years ago, based on analysis of their nuclear DNA. Felis margarita or Sand Cat, is adapted behaviorally and morphologically to live in desert environments. There are four subspecies of sand cat, each found in different areas: Felis margarita margarita found in North Africa, Felis margarita harrisoni found in Saudia Arabia, Felis margarita thinobia found in Turkmenistan and Felis margarita scheffeli found in Pakistan. Hemmer et al. (1976) found differences between cats found in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Felis m. margarita, of Africa, has a narrow skull, small carnassials, buffy-white colored paws and two to six rings on the tail. Felis m. harrisoni, from the Arabian Peninsula, has a broad skull, large carnassials, bright white paws and five to seven rings on the tail.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; When I first discovered I would be in BSC 1005, I was skeptical and a bit frightened. My classes were chosen by an academic advisor, so I didn't plan to take a biology class this year. Even though I was scared in the beginning of what this class would be like, I learned to look forward and enjoy the class. Biology is one of the best courses I've taken so far because the professor is informative and easy to work with, the work is done in class so there's no stressing over homework, and the class is a breeze to get through.<br><br></div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;At the beginning of this course, I did assignments such as introducing myself and doing presentations. These kinds of activities helped me better get to know my classmates and become more comfortable around one another. The professor, Rene Revuelta, is incredibly helpful and informative. His way of teaching helped me understand and get through this course. The assignments and activities done in this class are always thoroughly explained by the professor; it's a rare occasion to feel lost in this class.<br><br></div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Throughout this semester, we've used a website called 'Padlet'. Padlet is a simple to use website that can help you organize everything you've learned in class while also creating a safe and fun environment for you and your classmates to interact with. On my Padlet, I have all the assignments I have done in this course, as well as a couple videos we've studied to help us understand certain topics. The assignments in this course were all easy to complete, and there's no homework assigned by the professor. I really have enjoyed that aspect of this course because, unlike my other classes, I don't have to be cramming in work and trying to get everything done before the due date.<br><br></div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Now that I'm at the end of the semester, I realize what a breeze it was to get through this class. I feel I know more about biology and am confident when it comes to anything relating to biology. The assignments and professor are what made this class so easy to get through. I would recommend professor Rene Revuelta to anyone who is looking to take a biology course.<br><br></div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;To conclude, BSC 1005 has been a memorable experience. This biology course will always be in my books as one of the best courses I've taken so far, and it's all due to the fact the professor was informative and easy to work with, the work was done in class so there was no stressing over homework, and the class was a breeze to get through.<br><br></div>]]></description>
