Some popular artists of this genre are The Beach Boys, Sonny and Cher, The Rascals and The Lovin' Spoonfuls. Two strong influences on this music were experimentation with drugs and the Vietnam War. Some instruments used during this period are the electric guitar, drums, bass, and acoustic guitar. One very significant event was the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
