Last summer my family and I visited Mount Shasta in northern California. We stayed near a lake close by and could clearly see Mount Shasta in the distance. I found it interesting that even though the weather was warm, the mountain was still covered with snow. I had a lot of questions about this mountain and I began to do some research. What I discovered was that Mount Shasta's elevation climbs to towering 14,179 feet making it the fifth highest peak in the state! But that wasn't the most surprising fact. I was shocked to find out that Mount Shasta isn't really a mountain at all. In fact, Mount Shasta is actually a VOLCANO! A volcano covered in snow! Yes, it's true! The higher in elevation one goes, the thinner the atmosphere becomes, thus leading to colder temperatures. This got me thinking about many things. I was curious. Could a mountain somehow turn into a volcano? What do you think?
