When individuals or groups are consistent in their thinking, defend their values and convictions, and develop their arguments, this surely benefits society. Yet, this can only occur to the extent that there is genuine dialogue and openness to others.

Indeed, “in a true spirit of dialogue, we grow in our ability to grasp the significance of what others say and do, even if we cannot accept it as our own conviction. In this way, it becomes possible to be frank and open about our beliefs, while continuing to discuss, to seek points of contact, and above all, to work and struggle together”. [197] 

Public discussion, if it truly makes room for everyone and does not manipulate or conceal information, is a constant stimulus to a better grasp of the truth, or at least its more effective expression. It keeps different sectors from becoming complacent and self-centred in their outlook and their limited concerns.

Let us not forget that “differences are creative; they create tension and in the resolution of tension lies humanity’s progress”.

94. Love, then, is more than just a series of benevolent actions. Those actions have their source in a union increasingly directed towards others, considering them of value, worthy, pleasing and beautiful apart from their physical or moral appearances. Our love for others, for who they are, moves us to seek the best for their lives. Only by cultivating this way of relating to one another will we make possible a social friendship that excludes no one and a fraternity that is open to all.

95. Love also impels us towards universal communion. No one can mature or find fulfilment by withdrawing from others. By its very nature, love calls for growth in openness and the ability to accept others as part of a continuing adventure that makes every periphery converge in a greater sense of mutual belonging. As Jesus told us: “You are all brothers” (Mt 23:8).

Respect that each of us are different with diverse background and upbringing. Each has his/her own experiences. Let’s be open and be prepared to listen to each other’s viewpoint and try to understand each other’s conviction and belief.

Being part of a Village that provides a continuum of care has taught me to listen actively, embrace diverse view points, acknowledge differences, and seek resolution to move forward in unison. As leaders we have learned to discuss challenges openly and seek out each other for resolution. It has been an eye opening by journey.

Learning to actively listen to others, and not just fall back on my own views. Learning to respect and yet, understanding it’s ok to disagree. It’s been an ongoing journey.

I don’t see it as “my” love. I see it as Christ’s love for me, for which grace I must “impel” others. This leads me to see each faceless person in need

It has made me appreciate that I am not alone in my feelings

My love and deep held respect for children loved me from finance to education. The last years have been a fulling journey. I look forward to learning more and contributing better in this field.

If we do it well, there will be progress n growth in the relationships n togetherness of the team.

It is the moving facts and acknowledgment from others that we are all having the same sentiments and struggles in our efforts to engage in authentic dialogues with our teams and those in Caritas and in oribwork places. And this is a great comfort indeed.

The self opinated persona cones in often blocking our openness to listen to others

Understand each other’s needs & see the gaps that can bring collaboration

Having also preconceived ideas/ judgements on what others would say, decide etc.. so results in inaction on our part.

A calender planned in the way to understand volunteer are holding full time job so avoid frequently or every sat

Difficult to encourage and request participation

Of coz volunteer can turn down but within the volunteer group tension built

Collaboration requires both organiser n group to be in action n therefore collaboration exist

visit each other services to learn how we are knitted together.

Perhaps Caritas can provide a guide under the Archbishop on how we can model our lives with the findings
