Greetings between American and Hispanic culture have very different levels of intimacy or gentleness. In America a firm handshake is very common and is delivered as a business-only gesture. In Hispanic cultures it is much more common to give a much gentler handshake, hug, or even a kiss on the cheek. Hispanic cultures prefer to be much gentler with greeting and have a more open approach.

There is a big difference in American and Hispanic cultures of who should be focused on in the path to success.

In educational environments between Hispanic and American cultures there is a big difference in creative freedoms. For Americans the learning process is introduced many ways that include hands on learning that is very interactive and allows the student to make their own decisions. In Hispanic there is a very defined work area where a student is directed in a formal manor and has mostly bookwork or written materials.

Eye contact in both cultures play an important role in respect. In American culture it is very respectful to remain silent and make eye contact while someone is speaking or holding a conversation, this very important for elders or business like people whom you may have more respect for. In American culture it is actually quite rude to look around while someone is speaking. For Hispanic cultures it is actually important to look away at time to deliver the same respect level to elders and higher ups.

Depending on if you are part of an American or Hispanic culture you may call more people family than others. Hispanic families tend to include extended family. This means everyone from siblings, parents, and grandparents but also even neighbors and friends. A very important aspect of Hispanic family is to encourage growth as a family and sticking together. For Americans family usually stays within the close family and not so much extended family. It is also very important to Americans to teach their children to grow independently.
