On the night of June 10, 1963, a photographer had a call to come to a pagoda the next day at 6 in the morning, and that something really important would happen. When he got there the next day, he could tell something was very unusual because of the huge crowd of Buddhist monks and nuns. Many of them were weeping. Gasoline was poured over an old man. He had lighted himself on fire with a match he had on his lap. A photo was taken while the monk was burning. New York Times would not print it because it was a offensive photograph that is not suitable for breakfast newspaper for families. However, Most of the other newspaper companies printed the picture.
(this timeline is still in progress)
