The main character in this story is a caring,thoughtful,and friendly person. I know this because Jessica, the new girl at school has this major problem with her and nobody will even look,talk,or touch her because of this. So one day his teacher asks him to bring her her homework since she hasn’t been in school for a couple of days so he does. Once he gives her her homework they sit and talk for a while and they really connect but he’s still unsure of her. So now he has to make a decision, to hang out with his other friends ,Jeff and Rich or to be with Jessica the person nobody appreciates.

Ruby Danes is going through so much in her life because her mother is in prison. Ruby has changed so much throughout the story because in the beginning of the book Ruby loved her mother so much and all she ever wanted was for her mother to be out of prison. Until when drastic moment changed everything. Ruby from that moment on hated her mother because “she was the one who broke it.” This is one of my favorite books because the author really made the characters come to life.
