Goal: "Modeling and Implementing our VBO's"
I have had several opportunities to "Stand Up and Own it" :) A great example was last night. I gave teachers the wrong time for the Parent Power Hour Night. Thank goodness we caught it time, however, I had to stand up and own that I was rushing while typing the email to staff and should have double checked the time!
My "passion for growth" is being modeled as I learn alongside teachers as we dive into 2 resources I'm not very familiar with. Calkins Reading and Word Journys: DSA. We are all walking through each resource slowly, trying new things, and failing forward together. "Power of the Team" is an extremely important piece to our work. Jodie, Kate and I have had to cover each other's meetings, duties, etc several times. We've also asked other grade levels to step up with fail to fills. 1st grade split a classroom last week which allowed 3rd grade to have their assessment day, which was a great example of Power of the Team. Therefore, Jodie, Kate and I decided to take their duty on Tuesday next week so they can all go out to lunch together:) I'm trying my best to live by our VBO's, refrain from BCD and always keep E+R=O in mind with everything I do and say.

Goal: "Supporting one-to- one"
We have had grade level Team Time with myself, math coach, tech teacher and media specialist. During these times we set up dates to get Kidblog started (going into 1st grade Monday), canvas set up, playing with different apps to support the framework, and discuss ideas.

Goal: "Still Learning to Read" ongoing PD
I sat with grade level teams for literacy team time on Wednesday and 3-5 teachers expressed a lot of positivity using the "First 6 Weeks" chapter of SLR. I was excited to hear the conversations around community, building a passion for reading in their community and less focus on assessment in these first 6 weeks. Franki comes Oct. 23rd so we are excited for that. We also discussed conferencing in 4th grade and we have book clubs up and going in a couple 3rd grade classrooms and one 5 grade. I love supporting teachers in this work!

I love the conversations that we have and how it lends itself to setting goals with teachers. This year, I am implementing monthly mini-data teams with grade levels 1-5. My initial conversations with teachers really helped me focus on where I can come in and work alongside teachers and really tailor my professional development for individual teams/teachers.

It ranges from how to create the workshop, the elements within the workshop and the framework and reading conferences. K-3 are using the Lucy Calkins Reading Units, so we are working to use them and blend them with our framework and what is best for kids.

Mindset: I am really working hard to implement the VBO's into my coaching with both the teachers and the students.

Interests: I am really trying work with my teachers to give some of the ownership to students so that they can pursue their interests during reading workshop. I am also working with my principal on personalized PD opportunities. We did an ignite session at our staff meeting that was a huge success. Currently new teachers are doing well and 5th is now looking at tackling word study. My present goal is to discuss as a staff the calkins writing progression and rubric to gain a common language and application. I hope to stress using them in data teams to dive instruction. Lastly, it is a need in my building to continuously discuss F&Ps and analyzing data. This conversation also includes not "pushing them up the "letter ladder" for the sake of a letter.

My #1 goal this year is to build relationships with a new staff. We have to have a relationship, to begin to build conversations around instruction.
At the beginning of the year, I wanted feedback from the staff about which parts of the framework they would like to explore deeper. The feedback was they wanted to explore Writing deeper. This conversation has shifted to Reading Workshop, which is our building goal. Funny how things just fall into place:)
At this time, I want to go with what the staff feels they need support with right now. We are currently working on the setting up a workshop model in reading in grades 4, 5 and one first grade classroom. Based on teacher feedback, they would like to think about small group reading instruction. I plan to have a focus and cycle coach to help support a shift in instruction.

I’m having some success with getting our Hilliard resources some spotlight time. Teachers are hungry to know what to do/use and the continuum and phonics books are beginning to get used as the primary resource. Some teachers even bring it with them when we plan. I am going to keep at this goal for awhile.

Academic: Spreading ideas and resources during data teams and just in quick conversations. Going back to the framework especially with teams that have new teachers. Consistently asking the "Where do we go next and how can I support you?" questions, helps to keep the framework and our next steps at the epicenter of our conversations. Mindset: Using R-factor in the classroom consistently, working with the R-factor team, and helping teacher to think through additional supports some students might need in regards to their mindset to help their academic growth too. Interest: Learning the how to's of data teams and conversation. Have conversations and learning from Jacki, Amanda, and Lisa. When we have a common message and language, we can be on the same page with teachers. AND Embedding coding into the classroom, students really enjoy these experiences.

I listen to their questions/concerns, then think about where to begin in the frameworks. Trying to model a pattern.

Still chipping away at the Academics goal. Data teams again at the end of February, but soooo much to discuss. Baby steps!
