The story didn't seem to drag to me. It seemed to go in a kind of fast paced. The lady in the store could have said something to Paul instead of letting him beat Rashad. I understand that she tried, but she could have tried harder. Honestly, I think that if the lady was just a little more careful, none of this would have happened. Rashad wouldn't have been arrested, or beaten. I also think that his dad should've believed him. Rashad's dad knows that he's a good student. He's in JROTC and has never been suspended. It is definitely more interesting than a lot of terrible and slow books that somehow talk about nothing for 20 pages. Another good thing of this book is it's character development. For what the author does include, they know why they are including it. Every sentence contributes to the readers understanding of the plot and / or the point of view of a specific character. Lastly, I am glad the author was not scared to write about such a big and controversial topic. If anything, that only makes it more exciting.
I predict that eventually Quinn will realize that what Paul did was wrong and that he needs to do something, even if Paul is his best friends brother. Out of all the characters, I have a steamed hatred for Bothe Galluzzo, Paula, and Rashad's dad. All three of them just rubbed me the wrong way, mainly because of how they seemed to address the characters. Ther's also the fact that they didn't really seem to have a likeable personality. This book is exactly the type of book I enjoy reading. Not too much filler and it addresses the issue of the story right off the bat. It reminds me of my father and how he wants me to act super presentable and how he acts like being myself is an issue. So far on what I have been reading is on how Rashad the African American kid portrayed in this story is beat up for something he was blamed for, by a cop with unnecessary force and managed to hurt him badly. All this is leading up to the point of a climax with Rashad all in the middle of it. Supposedly on what I have been reading, this other kid which is the other character in this story is Quinn, which the story mentions that he himself knows the cop that is his brother or his friend. My prediction is that the cop who had taken down Rashad with unnecessary force will receive backlash from everyone because on how he treated a minor and maybe to the point the cop would be discharged. I also think that Quinn would have to say something since he did witness everything that had happened to Rashad. It really grabs the reader's attention. It focuses on a very sensitive topic but the author did a good job on making the reader understand both point of views. Speaking of point of views, the story doesn't just follow one person throughout, it also follows the other characters bringing in different opinions and perspectives. We can see both sides of the story which really helps to create less biases even though most readers would definitely be on the victim's side (Rashad). Although I feel as though what happened to Rashad was so unfair and unnecessary.
My predictions would be that people would go crazy over the story. I also think that when Quinn finds out who and why Paul beat up Rashad, he would struggle to choose sides because of his relationship with Paul and because of the whole situation in general. Because of my prior knowledge on this type of situation I feel that there will be protests and more public opinions on this. First, it started off with Rashad at ROTC practice and how he did it only to make his father happy because his father believes that a black man should serve their country. Later that day he was getting ready for a party so he decided to buy some stuff at Jerry's, an incident occured between him and a lady, so the clerk and the cop who was there believes he was stealing because a bag of chips fell into his bag. The cop basically harasses Rashad and Rashad is left with a broken nose and broken ribs. What Rashad experienced is what many minorities experience when being treated by a cop these days.Then the story changes to Quinn's perspective and talks about his family especially about his dad. And he is also getting ready for the same party Rashad was getting ready to go to. He went to Jerry's to buy some beer, once he gets there he witnesses Guzzo's older brother,  Paul, beating a minor with all the rage he has. Quinn is shocked to see Paul full of rage and is nervous to talk to him. I would feel the same way because if I see someone who I have known for so long and starts beating a minor practically to death I would feel kind of scared around that person because you think how long will it be until it will be me being beat up.
I predict that Rashad will notice that the cop who beat him up is a relative to some kid in his school. And since Guzzo is his relative the school will like bully him and look down on him with shame. The author switches between the two roles every chapter and lays out two sides of a story that first meet at one spot: Jerry's. Both characters were living their normal lives and Rashad was in the store getting ready to pay for a bag of chips for a party. Rashad squatted down to his duffel bag to get his phone, but when a white lady accidentally falls backward over Rashad and he drops the bag of chips down the aisle, she also shattered the bottle of beer she was holding as she fell. In the store were two alarmed men; a white cop and clerk. The clerk immediately saw the chips and open duffel bag and accused Rashad of trying to steal them. The cop asked the lady if she was okay, but before the lady could explain the misunderstanding, the cop accused Rashad, immediately grabbing him, thrusting him face down on the concrete outside the store entrance, cuffed him, and beat him up for "resisting arrest." By this violent moment, Quinn and his friends were right outside Jerry's and he witnessed the shocking beating. He recognized the cop and it was his older brother, Paul and couldn't believe Paul could be so violent. Every since this moment, the author describes the trouble this brings to both character's lives. Rashad is sent to the hospital and falsely looked down upon by family and Quinn's perspective of Paul is grayed. 

I predict that Quinn and Rashad will meet each other through parties and talk to each other about what happened and become close friends because I know that Quinn will not let what his brother did to Rashad just slide and maybe he will want to investigate to find this Rashad and figure out what really happened. I think that Rashad will continue to have to go through difficult obstacles of racism just to be proven innocent, but I don't think Paul will receive any harsh punishment for what he did because African Americans usually have the harsher punishments and fingers pointed at them. I love that this story switches roles and shows me what it's like to have two different sides of this kind of situation and I'm excited to see how the characters will meet.

The book "all American boys" by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, is a novel that highlights the struggles of many African-Americans. In the story, a teen named Rashad is charged for attempted robbery and for "resisting arresting" by a police officer. Earlier that day, the audience learns that Rashad had planned to purchase a bag of chips and gum before a party. However a series of unfortunate circumstances landed Rashad in the hospital.
Fortunately, the story doesn't end there. The book also features the point of view of a witness during the tragedy. Most would rather forget what they just saw but not Quinn. Quinn is determined to find out why his friend's brother almost killed someone he might know.
Similar to Rashad, Quinn has a few problems of his own. When he was little, his dad died from serving in the military. All he has now is his mother, brother, friends,  the basketball team, and the horrible memory at Jerry's.

Evaluation: I give the book a 5-star rating.
It is easy to read

I predict that Rashad's friends are going to attack Paul in an alleyway at night.
The next day the police find Paul in a puddle of blood and his rushed to the hospital. In the hospital, Paul encounters Rashad.
