The old phrase "Shards Brings Luck" indicates the belief of the good luck in this tradition. In the past, the term "shard" was used to describe pottery makers' complete clay pots rather than their broken fragments. The saying "shards bring luck" came from the belief that having a full jar was good.

Usually, it happens in front of the bride's home, or the home of the brides. On the day of their wedding, friends and family brutally shatter stoneware or porcelain (never glasses) which they believe that the noise of the shattering would scare away the evil spirits. The breaking of the dishes symbolizes the couples first act of solidarity and teamwork, the fragments being swept up also symbolizes the couple's first time overcoming an obstacle together.
