The Scars by Kate E. Cook  - "The Scars" is a historical fiction poem inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. The poem chronicles the journey from Great Grandfather’s horrific voyage in captivity on the slave ship through the generations to the Son in modern day America dealing with the scars that are left from his heritage. This poem was written as a tribute to and to demonstrate solidarity with those who understand the painful necessity and historical legitimacy of the Black Lives Matter narrative.

This book has been created in fulfillment of a senior year Capstone Project assignment to bring a topic or project into light and discuss its significance in our society. After considering a variety of topics, the author decided to focus her research on the profoundly troubling issue of domestic violence, which has sadly become a worldwide epidemic. Her purpose with this report is to take a fresh look at the literature in order to help update our thinking concerning how best to alleviate the suffering caused to individuals, families, and entire communities by this crippling problem.
