I am enjoying myself but still feel nervous before going into each session as I am unsure what it will bring and I am not sure if I will be able to deal correctly with it. I still a bit out of place in the class as not many of the participants know me which means they are not comfortable with coming to me for help if they need it. I am quite glad about this because I am unsure how to help them as I have never encountered people with Parkinson ’s disease so I am unfamiliar with it symptoms and how to overcome them. I usually get assigned to a specific person for each class, this will be the person or people with the worst symptoms and those who need specific one to one help from someone. I enjoy being assigned to a specific person because it means I can get to know that person on a more personal level including their symptons. It also means I can get to know what interventions work for them when getting them to stand up or when starting to walk to overcome the festination (hurried shuffling motion) which is one of the symptoms of the disease. I now know and can point out most of the main symptons of Parkinson's disease and I feel comfortable supporting and helping participants when they need it. I now know both of the classes very well and I am able to hold a conversation with anyone from the classes. this is a very important part of their week as it is a chance for them to unwind and forget about the problems they face outside of the class. As I know the class better now I am able to spot when a participant is struggling and can go help them confidently.
