According the Endocrinology Network, premature menopause of women with different racial and ethnic backgrounds causes a 40% increased risk of having Coronary Heart Disease. To prevent the risks that these women would experience, more studies should be made in order for doctors to be more proactive in improving her cardiovascular health. Studies showed how premature menopause was more common in black women than white women, making them more prone to having coronary heart disease (“Premature Menopause Linked to Increased Risk of Coronary Heart Disease.”).

This article relates to the blood system because coronary heart disease develops in the heart's arteries as the heart is unable to pump oxygenated blood into the heart due to atherosclerosis. As Coronary Heart disease develops, the inner layer of the coronary artery is damaged, causing the buildup of plaque which is a build-up of material inside of the smooth endothelium lining of the artery where it accumulates and can cause a blockage (6.2: The Blood System). The Blood system should be understood when reading this article because it suggests that women who experience menopause before the age of 40 are more prone to suffering from this disease.

The message I want to send is for women to be willing to have daily checkups with the doctor and having a healthier lifestyle that includes exercise and a better diet in order to decrease the risk of having coronary artery disease. According to the American Heart Association, "Women should take care of their heart through regular exercise and good nutrition and by eliminating unhealthy habits like smoking, which may contribute to early menopause, increase the risk of blood clots, decrease the flexibility of arteries and lower the levels of HDL cholesterol" (“Menopause and Heart Disease”). It is highly important for women to understand that "Menopause does not cause cardiovascular diseases. However, certain risk factors increase around the time of menopause" (“Menopause and Heart Disease”). This should open awareness for women as cardiovascular diseases are lethal, and that unfortunately women altogether are more prone to suffering from this diseases than men. This news article impacts me as I now know that I need to take better care of my body and keep increasing better and healthier habits for my health benefits.

Post menopausal women are more prone to suffering from coronary heart disease became of a decline in the natural hormone estrogen. Estrogen is crucial as it benefits the inner layer of the artery wall, allowing and facilitating the flexibility of blood vessels helping the blood flow in our body. Also, as a women goes through menopause, some factors also change such as the blood pressure increasing, LDL cholesterol also increases, and HDL cholesterol remains the same. All of these factors contribute to having coronary heart disease (“Menopause and Heart Disease”).

The attribute that I feel I should work on is being able to be a good communicator. Throughout my life, I have always struggled with expressing myself and my ideas as I feel that they are unimportant or even wrong. An example of this is how during Biology class, I was always willing to participate through the private chat as I felt that my answers were not valid enough for the whole class to hear. I now know that I have to be more confident in my beliefs and in my knowledge and being more open minded to be able to make mistakes. I now understand that being a good communicator is very important when trying to be a good leader for those surrounding us.

Favorite Task In Bio (During two years)

My favorite task that I completed in Bio was when in 10th grade we had to build our own little ecosystem in a bottle, specifically a mesocosm. During this task we had to make many hypothesis regarding what we were planting. This was the task that I enjoyed the most as it was very interactive with friends and I even got to help the environment. Personally, I love to take care of the earth and this activity helped me achieve this goal as well.
