However, it is also a day of hope, as Christians remember that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. As a result, Good Friday is a day of mixed emotions for many Christians around the world.

The brothers were born in Thessalonica, in what is now Greece, to a wealthy family. They both received a first-rate education - Cyril studied philosophy and became a monk, while Methodius studied law. In the 860s, they were sent to the court of Prince Rastislav of Great Moravia to help spread Christianity in the region and to preach to his people in their own language. They developed the Glagolitic alphabet and translated parts of the Bible into Old Church Slavonic. Cyril died in 869, but Methodius continued his work. In 880, he was made Archbishop of Great Moravia and continued to promote Christianity throughout the region. He remained in that post until his death in 885.

He was born in Bohemia in 1370, studied at the University of Prague and later became its rector. Hus was influenced by the writings of John Wycliffe, a English theologian who advocated for many of the same reforms that Hus would later champion. 
He fought against the Catholic Church's corrupt practices, such as selling indulgences, and questioned the authority of the Pope. Due to his beliefs, Hus was excommunicated from the Catholic Church and eventually burned at the stake on July 6, 1415. However, his death only served to further fuel the Hussite movement, and his ideas would go on to influence the Protestant Reformation.
