I think Trevor Noah's mother was incredibly brave to have a mixed race baby in the world she was living in. I imagine she was scared on so many occasions that she would be imprisoned or worse.

Her decision to have a mixed child during apartheid was very dumb and I would have never done that. It's even worse too because most people with a mixed child would leave South Africa but she decided to stay and risk getting arrested. The reason she did it though was probably cause she just didn't care enough about the consequences. In the second chapter when Trevor asked his mom why she did this she said she wasn't thinking of the consequences.

He was not able to be with his father most of the time which might've made him upset. Having to be hidden and you're parents acting like they weren't even your parents might've also made him feel confused, and upset like maybe he thought he was a burden on his parents.

I think that Noah's mother's decision to have a mixed child was very risky and selfish. She knew at the time that having a mixed child was a crime and she would be putting her child's life in danger but she still did it and in the second chapter, it mentioned that she didn't even "consider the ramifications of having a mixed child during Apartheid." Noah also mentioned that when the police was around, she didn't walk close to him. I think that it is very selfish of a person to have a child, knowing that they are risking that child's life.

I feel as if the challenging circumstances that Trevor Noah had grew up in had a somewhat positive impact on him because it allows him to experience things that other people can't which will make him more prepared for life as a grown up. An example of how challenging circumstances may improve his life is how he was born a mixed child. During the time period he was born this was considered a huge crime since people weren't allowed to mix race, so we can assume he had to face racism growing up. Many kids haven't experienced racism but I feel like being exposed to it at a young age can somewhat be an advantage since it can prevent them from having those ideals in the future.

I would somewhat compare the conditions of South Africa during Apartheid to America during the civil rights movement. In both of these countries, there is a lot of segregation. In South Africa, they had separated every race because they didn't believe that being with another race and having a mixed child was a good thing. While in America, black and white people had been separated due to the ideology of that white people were somewhat superior to black people. During both of these time periods groups of people are being separated solely based on their race.

I think the challenging circumstances that Trevor Noah grew up with had a more negative impact on him because due to him being mixed during apartheid he didn't have much of a childhood. His family was just trying to protect him but he didn't understand as a kid. He wanted to be like his cousins who played in the yard and had fun, he missed out on that as a child he even tried to escape by digging a hole.

I don't think that he made the right decision. During that time, he knew about the segregation that was going on and he still risked having a child with Patricia. This put Trevor's life in danger and his families life in danger. In the book, Trevor said that white men didn't get in trouble for being with a black woman but the woman would be beaten. Even if his dad didn't get in trouble, his mom would still be punished if caught and the dad still put her at risk.

I personally think that it was really brave of Trevor Noah's mother to have a child during this time period in South Africa due to the severe consequences that it came with. Having a child with someone that's not the same race as you was considered to be illegal in South Africa during this time so I felt as if Trevor Noah's mom had a mixed race baby just so that she can somewhat protest and go against they unmoral laws that were established. If I were in her situation I believe that I would have not had a mixed race baby because I don't like kids.

He grew up a mixed child during apartheid which was illegal. He had to deal with the fact that no one could know who his father was and he couldn't walk alone with his mother. He then grows up and informs people on this crazy time in his life by writing a book about it.
I mean Trevor Noah’s home, outside, anywhere wasn’t really the best, it was negative but also positive. I feel the impact may have been more positive, he is an amazing person now. He's a leader, comedian, activist, and etc. Instead of taking trauma from his life and feeling bad for himself he took the positive route and learned from it, wrote a book and helped other people like him better. He showed that no matter the color of your skin you can fight racism and that's more positive than anything. I probably don't know a really bad situation like this because there isn't segregation in America anymore.

I think that Trevor’s mom made a good decision, maybe she didn't have the best explanation in fact we didn’t really get one at all. But maybe she didn’t want her children's future to be at risk like her’s. I don't believe this is her best choice but we can’t really say she had a better choice. Trevor’s mother probably didn’t want her children to grow up full African and be treated how she was treated, like in the cab when they found out what tribe she was and wanted to kill her. Trevor’s mom maybe just thought making her child half white was going to give him a little more respect than what they gave her in Africa. I don’t judge her because I probably would have done the same thing. Being in that position there was really no right and wrong, it was just an idea and it turned out to be a great one.

She definitely took a risk knowing that in South Africa at that time having a mixed kid was technically “a crime”. She might have made that decision because in her head there is nothing really wrong with having a mixed race kid despite South Africa’s laws. I honestly would have also made that same decision if i’m with a man that I love and I want to start a family with him, I would take the risk of disobeying the laws and doing it for my happiness.
