What was Carnegie's perspective in his book, 'The Gospel of Wealth'? Why would someone who advocated for philanthropy still draw criticism from union leaders and other proponents of socialism?

Carnegie's philanthropy was that the wealthy should give back to society, but he faces criticism for leading a monopoly of steel businesses to obtain his wealth, basically taking over the businesses that the populists and union leaders came from.

What is the difference between a theocracy, plutocracy, democracy & an autocracy? How does it relate to this unit?

Plutocracy is government run by the wealthy, democracy is the whole population and elected officials, autocracy is government by one person with absolute power, and theocracy is a form of government in which God or a deity is recognized as the supreme civil ruler. This relates to the unit because the American population was fighting with each other about the different values of the Americans government, for example some citizens wanted the country to be socialist while others wanted capitalism.

Samuel Gompers (the AFL), blacks & women (what's the correlation?) How did the Knights of Labor differ?
The correlation between these 3 groups is that the AFL wanted better working conditions for laborers, but prohibited blacks and minorities. The Knights of Labor differed by welcoming African Americans, women, and unskilled to semi skilled workers, whereas the AFL only welcomed skilled laborers.

Haymarket Square Riot (Who? What? Why? When? Where?)

The Haymarket Square riot, May 4th 1886, near Chicago's Haymarket square, was caused for better working conditions. Originally intended as a labor protest rally against the start of National wage. The riot started after a bomb was thrown at the police. This eventually resulted in loss of concern for laborers and an anarchy in the middle class.

Robber Barons or Captains of Industry (Carnegie, Vanderbilt & Rockefeller) - in what industry did they make most of their money? What is a monopoly/trust? What's the difference between a VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL integration? (GROUP 1)

Rockefeller made most of his money off of oil refineries which made him a captain of industry . Carnegie lead in the steel industry which made him a captain of industry. Vanderbilt made a living off the railroad industry which made him a robber baron. All three men were monopolist and lead many monopolies. A monopoly is the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service. A vertical integration is the combination in one company of two or more stages of production normally operated by separate companies. While a horizontal integration is the process of a company increasing production of goods or services at the same part of the supply chain.
