1. By Monday at 11:59 pm, edit your assigned gallery slot to add your project draft. You should rename your gallery slot, but please leave the background color the same. (To stay true to the gallery concept, try to include a visual representation of your ideas.)

2. Also, please draft an artist's statement. This will be a short (2-3 sentence) summary of your project's rhetorical situation, audience, and goals. Example posted in C. Bayly's column (yellow)!

3. Before 11:59 PM WEDNESDAY, comment on the drafts in your color group (pink, green, blue, or purple). Make at least one unique observation and ask at least one insightful question about each project. Title your response with your name so CB can assign credit. Example posted in C. In 2020, the PTK Mentoring Committee proposed a robust faculty mentoring program, submitting a comprehensive dossier of documents to department chair Amanda Bailey. While the proposal was approved, we felt the faculty at large might struggle to parse the conditions under which they'd want/need to seek mentorship. To alleviate these concerns, the committee developed the above infographic for widespread faculty distribution via email and in Tawes Hall.

Artist statement

Federal marijuana policy continues to fall behind the reality of 64 million Americans that have integrated cannabis use into their daily routines. The infographic was designed to bring my position paper arguments off the page and into public spaces as a visual artifact. I want to reach my everyday Americans, especially young adults, as they are the new wave that will push open the doors of legalization. This poster aims to push young adults to take civic action by contacting their state senator and supporting the reform.

My poem's audience is the UMD English department, where the work would hypothetically decorate the walls. In accordance with my position paper, I aim to persuade the UMD English department that humanities declined significantly during the Cold War because of two factors: the Red Scare and technological competition. In order to most obviously pit the subjects of the poem against each other, I hyperbolized the dialogue between perpetuators of the Red Scare and the recipient humanities scholars.

"Health" influencers on Instagram often promote overly restrictive diets that are not rooted in science. This Instagram page debunks what these influencers are promoting science based approach to healthy eating. The audience for this will be mostly based on Instagrams algorithm. The goal of this Instagram page is to convince people to weary of what people say online and rely on science in the realm of health.

My video seeks to introduce the reasons why metal culture should be archived to University of Maryland students in a pathos-driven way, using my own personal experiences to explain what metal means to me and why I feel that should warrant archival. As a secondary goal, the video also seeks to encourage external audiences to experience metal culture for themselves. This video has flashing lights and some explicit imagery (there is a picture of my hometown venue with the bands and show-goers flipping the bird to the camera) and is therefore not meant for children or anybody with light sensitivities.
