Is it ok if your groups presentation topic is related to your essay topic

Hi, not sure what it meant by the presentation and essay being related however it is not expected that the essay and the group presentation will have a similar focus. The interprofessional change plan that is the focus of the group presentation should present a tangible and specific change action that is proposed in order to address the issue, essentially what are you proposing to do differently to make a difference, then link this to change theory/tools to present your plan. The essay has a different focus and should be about a critical discussion of a practice situation that was experienced on placement but one that involves a minimum of two professions.

Hi,
I was just wondering if the practice example had to be about a team making a change, or if it could be about something else? For example: the presence of a consultant in a Morning MDT meeting and how that influenced the atmosphere? Thanks.

Hi, the essay does not necessarily require to have a focus on change management. The key for the essay is that you chose a practice situation that you can evaluate the theories of leadership/organisational culture/behaviours/professional identity and/or change (only if relevant). Choosing the right situation that gives you things to discuss from these theoretical perspectives is key here. In terms of the situation you highlight the focus of your essay could be on the MDT meeting. he behaviours within this and their impact would be part of your discussions rather than the main focus.

I.e. theory on groups and team working?
Hi, it is okay to discuss other relevant theory however you require to consider that the focus is on discussing the practice situation from an organisational perspective. Rather than the focus being primarily on team working you would require to consider how the team functions within the organisation and discuss aspects such as how the team is led, the impact of the organisations culture or influences on individual and group behaviour within the team with reference to organisational behaviour theory.

Can it be more the general issues within the MDT in a setting? or does it need to be specific about a particular issue regarding the care of a patient ?
Hi, the issue does not need to link to a specific patient but can be more general about an MDT meeting. The important consideration is that the MDT meeting is critically discussed from an organisational perspective. For example exploring leadership or the culture within the organisation and how they impact and influence the MDT meeting.

I was hoping to clarify whether or not we can use placement locations within our essays? Obviously in doing so and describing particular roles this will make members of staff identifiable. However, it will be critical to the context of the essay to identify where we are and who we are dealing with. Thanks.
Hi, we understand that context is important however placement sites and/or staff should not be identifiable within an essay. This would raise significant issues in relation to confidentiality and any staff referred to would not be able to respond to what was written about them. Please avoid naming sites and staff.

During placement I witnessed the 'fall-out', but am not sure how the situation was resolved.
Can I discuss how if bhaviours etc. from the beginning were different it would have avoided the conflict?
Thanks
Hi, it is fine to write about a practice situation that you are not sure how it was resolved. The focus of your essay is being able to critically discuss and explore from an organisational perspective why things happened as they did. In the final section of the essay you can draw together the main points from your discussions and consider the impact the situation had on interprofessional working moving forward and strategies that could have been in place to avoid conflict.
