His crush and her friends also avoided him. Derek probably felt confused, lonely, and sad. He felt this way because people made fun of him all the time because he was different. No one wanted to be around him or be his friend. He felt devastated when his crush's friends made fun of him and his crush just stood there doing nothing not participating but not stopping it. Derek wanted Lila or his crush to know that he liked her. However, he did not have the courage to tell her so he started leaving her gifts. He was probably very nervous because he wants Lila to like her but he does not want to embarrassed himself or her. Finally, he got the courage to tell her and in front of everyone. He was scared holding flowers in his had so to be Lila's flowers he probably told himself he should not do it but he knew he had to. He wanted her to like him back however he only got her to hate him. When she gave her the flowers she yelled at him and threw the flowers on the ground she told him to leave and stop bugging her. He knew that everything that she said was genuine but he did not want it to be he wanted her to like him so bad. It did not happen. He was going to cry not because he got rejected in front of everyone but because of her words. Lila saw this and because she knew how everyone was and hurtful they could be she decided to pick up the flowers and leave. Derek did not cry he looked at her in surprise he knew that he would not ever work things out with Lila or even date her.
