Some popular figures on the internet, such as Joe Rogan (pictured to the top left), have made and spread the unbacked claim that the antiparasitic drug ivermectin can treat and prevent SARS-CoV-2, or covid 19. They also claim the dose, variety, or method of use is irrelevant as it could come as a paste, drench, or tablets. In essence, they claim it boosts your immune system or can even outright kill the virus. It can also be prescribed to you by a medical professional for certain parasites (lice, worms), but that legitimate use has now been overshadowed by the claims certain individuals or groups have been making.

What will taking ivermectin do?

It will do absolutely nothing if you don't have any parasites, according to the FDA at least. But, hey, what do they know. Well, not exactly nothing. It does have the capability to poison you if a large enough dose has been ingested and hundreds of people did ingest a large enough dose to hospitalize them.

Those who spread the false gospel of ivermectin often make mention of the fact that it has been FDA approved for use on humans, and that is true. At least, as an antiparasitic, and critically not as an antiviral, but they must just forget to mention that. Even when taken as an antiparasitic the dose and prescribed use is extremely specific because it is quite dangerous, it is not ibuprofen or something that can just be used willy-nilly.

My name is John Smith Doe and I am a family doctor operating out of Pembroke, Ontario, also known as the worst place on earth. I got my Bachelors in Medicine at uOttawa and graduated from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. I did my residency at the University of Toronto and went on to obtain my medical license shortly after. I now work in the clinic at Pembroke Regional Hospital. I chose this profession because of the money and because the man who killed my father was a doctor. If you think you want to become a doctor to help people you should instead become a politician, because the ability to lie to yourself and others like that is very useful in that profession. The salary ain't bad but selling prescriptions is how you make the real money. I would've sold ivermectin prescriptions if the government didn't restrict it during covid.
