Collaboration is working jointly with others to produce
academic results. Characteristics include; desire to make change, remove
comfort level to achieve results, communicate openly and honestly within the
group. The benefits that derive from collaboration are: receiving varied strategies to use and implement skills to enhance students learning. Also increase interest in students’ appreciation for learned subject. Barriers would include; time to allow for scheduling all participants to meet and discuss
opportunities, testing instruments to measure and validate progress, visiting
other schools who practice collaboration, including technology in the learning
process with seasoned teachers. The necessary skills for collaboration are:
expertise in a particular area and a willingness to come together. I am very
comfortable to work collaboratively with my colleagues. My ability to adapt to change allows students to achieve academic success. The students today are more
technology savvy than students of the past.
As administrators, we must always evolve educationally-never become stagnate
in our approach. In order for this to work you must have openness to effect change, a committee to review and evaluate learning, and re-examine curriculum and core standards- to identify any areas of weakness that need
improvements. Preparation would come through workshops and visits to other
schools. I would do it if I had the opportunity, however my current position does not have any future plans for collaboration. It was not until my Master’s Degree I became involved with aspects of collaboration. I feel that undergrad did not address collaboration at all.

I would say it is the coming together of participants to
achieve a specific goal, Such as teaching. I feel that complete cooperation is
needed. Preplanning is essential. Many concepts and a varied point of view are usually brought to the table.
Administrative priorities may be bias to the outcome. Teachers may feel they are losing control of their classroom. The ability to cooperate is definitely necessary. Organizational abilities are definitely needed as well. I have been in a collaboration situation on and off throughout my career, I am very comfortable. All parties must want to work together, such as teachers, administrators. Workshops always are help. Practice
helps as well. You pick a project and collaborate on getting it completed. I am unlikely to engage in collaboration these days and undergrad gave me little preparation for collaboration.

Collaboration can be defined as individuals are working together to achieve a common purpose
or goal where the outcome benefits all. Just like when being apart of any team during collaboration there needs to be a set goal, good effective communication,
patience, coordination, and flexibility to name a few. If collaboration is used effectively many new ideas can be conceived, born, nurtured, and raised
into successful practices. When collaboration is to be used as an effective tool barrier can include but are not limited to isolation and limitations. Limiting yourself to what only you know or want to learn can keep you from providing the best and most effective education to the students that you have been charged to teach. Isolation is a barrier because when you as an educator have so many lives in your hand trying to figure everything out on
your own and keeping struggles and accomplishments inside and closed in is only self-serving. Communication, the ability to embrace changes, and being
able to agree to disagree in an effective way. In the world of education today with classrooms being more inclusive rather then General Ed. Classrooms collaboration is a key component for success in the classroom. Being comfortable in the knowledge, understanding, and willingness to explore new things, not only with the individuals of the team that you are working with but
also with yourself. I think having the mindset there is always something to be learned or taught, and keeping an open mind about practices, pedagogy,
and ideas will take you very far in collaboration. In the world of education today to engage in collaboration is a must, so I am very likely to
engage in that practice in the near future. I think college prepares you immensely for collaboration because college is built around the give and take of ideas and practices.

Co-Teaching is defined as two teachers in one classroom working together to achieve academic goals for the students. The characteristics of Co-Teaching are a compatible working relationship between

the teachers in the classroom, and each teacher must demonstrate a proper
respect for boundaries and space when teaching curriculum to students. Meeting the needs of each student in a comfortable setting. You develop a one to one relationship with students and begin to understand their weakness and strengths. Once identified, you can initiate skills that will increase the learning process. The barriers that could affect co-teaching are the lack of cooperation from administrators to implement new approaches to learning, limited innovative approaches within the time frame and learning abilities may present problems if regular students
grasp concepts quicker. A compatible working relationship between the teachers in the classroom. Each teacher must demonstrate a proper respect for boundaries and space when teaching curriculum to students. Meeting the needs of each student in a comfortable setting. You develop a one to one relationship with
students and begin to understand their weakness and strengths. Once identified, you can initiate skills that will increase the learning process. The most important skills to co-teaching
are teachers working together to resolve personal conflicts. In the beginning of my teaching career, I had one period of co-teaching with students. The environment was pleasant because of the positive interaction between me and the other teacher. We double teamed our students and produced results. I felt
comfortable only because of the connection I had with the other teacher. We partnered very well. Conditions necessary for Co-Teaching are warm classroom atmosphere; both teachers are knowledgeable about subject(s) taught and rules, guidelines and classroom decorum in place for student to follow. I think when selecting staff to do Co-Teaching it is imperative that administration considers personalities, adaptability to conform and have a strong knowledge base. To better prepare Teachers or myself- I
believe workshops, visitations to other schools that have had success with Co-Teaching and empower the teacher to fell better prepared than to have two teachers enter it cold. Currently, my new position does not permit me to practice co-teaching in the true sense of the practice. There are occasions that I will ask my co-worker to join me in a classroom demonstration to assist with understanding
how to navigate the college process. My undergraduate studies did not allow for
Co-Teaching at the Secondary level. The main focus was on the subject of concentration.

Co-teaching is when two or more teachers work together to teach the same curriculum to accomplish the same objective or goal. All teachers involved must be on the same page. They must cooperate in understanding the needs of the students and come to a mutual understanding of the objective(s) each will solve to meet those objectives. With co-teaching students receive a varied teaching input. Students also are able to identify with the teaching methods of one or the other teacher. It definitely allows greater insight into the students needs. You gain a wider perspective on subject matter as well as methodology. Many administrators have negative feelings when it comes to Co-teaching such as: too expensive, waste of resources, lack of teacher utilization. Teachers need to learn the art of cooperation, collaboration and integration of skills. I have actually been in a Co-teaching situation and I truly enjoyed it. I was fortunate to have a teacher who was willing to cooperate and since I was the senior teacher she was willing to

learn or except my ideas. On the other hand, I appreciated her fresh and new ideas.
We used the best of our ideas to achieve our goals. Conditions could contain: better classroom settings, supplies (such as specific types of desks) and curriculum. Better preparation could come from, workshops, literature
(books on the subject) and other teachers or supervisors who have actually had
the experience of a Co-teacher. If I were still teaching I would love to Co-teach at any given time. However I am retired. The only hint of Co-teaching was with my cooperating teacher during my student teacher days.

The best way I can define Co-teaching is two or more teachers working together and sharing all the responsibilities of the classroom equally. Having

the ability to work well with others and being able to share and implement a
plan are just a few characteristics needed for co-teaching. When co-teaching is incorporated into the classroom the teachers should be less stressed if everyone is pulling their weight effectively. Potential

barriers for educators with co-teaching would be both teachers not being in the
same page and with that everything in the classroom will be unorganized and
chaotic. There are some things that are highly important for co-teaching
to occur however organization, planning, facilitation, and implementation seem
to be the foundation. With classrooms today being overcrowded and
inclusive I think that co-teaching should be an essential part of each
classroom. The more hands on deck the better. I would be more then comfortable
and prepared for co-teaching. The front-runner of conditions for co-teaching would have to be space and cooperation from all parties
involved. The ability to work well with others would be a great preparation
to be able to handle co-teaching. I would really hope to see co-teaching
incorporated in every classroom in the near future and hope that I could be
apart of the effectiveness of this practice. Having took some education
classes I don't really know how much college prepares you for co-teaching
because when it comes to your classes you are expected to perform individually
except for some group projects. When co-teaching everything should be shared
and responsibilities belong to everyone not just an individual.

Consultation is to seek or provide expert knowledge for
discussion about something that is being decided upon. a true concern to improve the statistics of students performance on standardized test and classroom performance . Benefits are shared ides between teachers and administrators working together to implement changes in the classroom, new technologies for learning and instruction. An administration that is not progressive in their thinking to try new things to enhance varied methods of teaching. It may be a community fear., or A fear of their position. Fear of exposing a staff’s limitation to be unable to complete task. The Skills required is an appreciate for the art of education. another skill is the desire to make constructive changes in the educational arena, and for the empowering of students and staff. I believe that I am prepared for consultation
due to the number of years I have been employed as an educator. (38 years) I
have seen many facets of teaching, techniques, and strategies used. My comfort
permits me to receive information or disperse information to staff memembers. I strongly feel that desire is the greatest compliment to effect change. Passion must be present for all state holders to come together for our students. The second condition is to have knowledge based individuals to partake in the assignment and the freedom to discuss and challenge any idea for the betterment of instructing our students. I cannot express the importance of sending teachers to workshops to expand their vision and to empower them with tools to come to a consulting meeting to discuss and make determinations as the best course of action for students. accomplish a goal or get answers to questions. You need a willingness to trust
others and their opinion and expertise. Consultation can be very one sided. You
must have the ability to ask the right questions and be very intuitive. I am
not very comfortable with this area of collaboration. Each party must be willing to listen and to take information seriously. I feel that knowledge of the subject and a possible mentor to work with you. I have very little reason to engage in consultation. I wasn’t given enough college courses to hit the ground running when concerning consultation.

professionals about a particular topic or problem. Listening and the
ability to ask informative questions. I think that with consultation you can get an expert view on topics that you may not have all the information about. Also with consultation one barrier might be the availability of
experts to be able to meet with you, and another would be having an expert that
is to date with the most current facts and knowledge about the topic at hand. I
think that a major component necessary for consultation would be listening and
the ability to incorporate the topic and ideas proposed in a
consultation. I believe if it were a topic or situation that I was having a difficult time with and needed more information for I would be more than willing for consultation because it can do nothing but make me better. Active listening needs to be at the forefront for consultation to occur. I think that accepting that there may be a problem or topic that needs to be considered for consultation If there was a matter by which consultation was warranted I would be more then ready to engage. I think it depends on the role you play in the consultation.
