Definition

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks.

There are four basic types of bipolar disorder; all of them involve clear changes in mood, energy, and activity levels. These moods range from periods of extremely “up,” elated, and energized behavior (known as manic episodes) to very sad, “down,” or hopeless periods (known as depressive episodes). Less severe manic periods are known as hypomanic episodes.

The physical effects of bipolar disorder can be from the disorder itself or indirectly. Many people with this disorder have substance abuse as a result of trying to "cure" their problem.
Bipolar disorder can make productivity slow or stop which can lead to job loss and or failing grades, in the sports side of things it can lead to getting kicked or sacked from a team or missed opportunities. However, there are hypomanic effects which can lead to the opposite, being very productive and hyperactive. A coping strategy would be being in a job with understanding co-workers and not physically demanding.

The mental effects outweigh the physical, spiritual and social aspects by a lot, this is because it's a mental illness so it's already done damage. In mood disorders the patient will suffer from lows and highs of their emotional and mental state. Some symptoms include depression, easily agitated, suicidal thoughts and pessimistic thoughts. The problem a bipolar person would have on the field is that bipolar disorder is known to give the affected person memory problems or lack there of. You can get pills to combat the depression but there have been studies showing abuse of the drug amongst people that suffer from bipolar disorder.
