Supporting Inclusive Education By Social and Emotional Learning - Virtual Activity 2 - Let's Share Our Erasmus+ Diary; project number: 2023-1-PL01-KA210-SCH-000151546 by Marlena Ochocka

Think about your Erasmus+ experience. Choose one or more moments you would like to share (something fun, emotional, inspiring or surprising). Create a short diary – you can write a few sentences, add a quote, describe a memory, or share your feelings. Be creative, honest, and respectful. Let’s show what Erasmus+ meant to us – through our own words.

Participating in this project has been a powerful and heart-opening experience. It showed me how emotional education can truly change the way we teach, learn, and connect with others.

What touched me most was how much we learned from one another – through open conversations, shared emotions, and honest reflections. We explored how to recognise, express, and manage emotions, and how this awareness builds stronger, more inclusive communities.

This project wasn’t just about learning strategies – it was about growing together, understanding each other deeply, and creating safe spaces where every student feels seen and valued. I believe this is the kind of education that truly makes a difference.

As both a teacher and headmistress, I can say without hesitation that this project has been one of the most meaningful educational experiences in our school’s recent history. Supporting Inclusive Education by Social and Emotional Learning gave us more than methods – it gave us purpose. It encouraged our staff to reflect deeply on how we support each student, not just academically, but emotionally and socially. I watched our teachers grow more confident in addressing sensitive topics, and our students become more empathetic, self-aware, and open to others. What I value most is the strong sense of community this project built – across countries, classrooms, and hearts. We did not only exchange ideas; we inspired each other. This is what true education should be about.

I had the chance to take part in an exchange I went to Italy, and I hosted an Italian girl in January and a Spanish girl in May. I think everyone who joined this project learned a lot. We became more open, more confident, made new friends, and got to know different cultures and traditions. We had a chance to see the world. I’ll definitely remember my trip to Italy forever. I’m super thankful I got to be part of such an awesome project.

As a member of the eMotions Club, I had the opportunity to take part in the SIESEL project, which focused on emotions, communication, and intercultural exchange. It was a truly meaningful experience that combined learning with personal growth in a fun and engaging way.

Through the project, I became more open to meeting new people, trying new things, and handling unfamiliar situations with confidence. We explored how emotions shape our interactions and how people from different cultures express and understand them differently. This helped me develop better communication skills, greater empathy, and a deeper appreciation for diversity.

The SIESEL project also gave us the chance to connect with students from other countries, learn about their cultures, traditions, and lifestyles, and create unforgettable memories together. It was both educational and enjoyable, and I’m really grateful I got to be a part of it. I’m definitely looking forward to joining more exchange projects like this in the future.

Hi everyone! I am Sefa. I am the school project coordinator of Hamza Yerlikaya Secondary School.
Participating in this Erasmus+ project, which was structured around the Big Five model of the OECD, significantly enriched my professional perspective on social and emotional learning. The framework helped me understand how these skills are not isolated traits, but deeply interconnected and essential for both academic and personal growth. Throughout the training and collaborative activities, we explored each of the five core domains: task performance, emotional regulation, collaboration, open-mindedness, and engaging with others and their related sub-skills. I was particularly inspired by the sessions on emotional regulation and collaboration, which led me to develop classroom routines that support stress resistance, empathy, and cooperation among students. We launched in school activities, such as student-led peer coaching and classroom roles that foster responsibility and teamwork. I also observed that integrating activities that stimulate curiosity and creativity aligned with the open-mindedness dimension greatly improved student motivation and engagement. As a result of this project, not only have my teaching methods evolved, but our school culture has also become more inclusive, supportive, and emotionally aware. I believe that embedding the Big Five model into our everyday practices is a long-term investment in both academic success and student well-being. Thank you for your listening!

I teach Maths at Hamza Yerlikaya Secondary School.
As a teacher, participating in the Erasmus+ activities focused on developing social and emotional skills was a transformative experience not just for me, but also for my school community. During the training sessions, I learned practical strategies for promoting emotional intelligence in the classroom such as mindfulness techniques, open communication exercises, and emotional check-ins. After returning to school, I began incorporating these practices into my daily teaching. I noticed that students became more self-aware, expressed their feelings more freely, and showed greater empathy toward each other. Through group activities and reflection circles inspired by the Erasmus+ project, we created a classroom environment where students felt safe, heard, and supported. This ripple effect also encouraged other teachers to adopt similar approaches. Overall, this project empowered me as an educator and allowed me to support my students not only academically but also socially and emotionally.

I am a Science Teacher.
Taking part in this Erasmus+ project on supporting social and emotional competencies gave me a new perspective on how to approach teaching and students’ social and emotional well-being. Before the project, we mainly focused on academic success, but the activities and workshops I participated in helped me understand the deep connection between emotions and learning. I began implementing regular SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) practices in my classroom such as cooperative learning tasks, conflict-resolution activities, and empathy. One of the most impactful moments was organizing a school-wide “Empathy Week,” an idea that emerged during a project brainstorming session with international partners. Students participated in role-playing scenarios, shared personal stories, and wrote gratitude letters. The emotional maturity and kindness they displayed during this week amazed me. Since then, our school culture has shifted toward one that values emotional literacy and mental well-being. I believe this would not have been possible without the Erasmus+ project and the professional development it offered. Thank you very much for your listening.

I am the guidance counselor teacher of Hamza Yerlikaya Middle School.
The Erasmus+ project on social and emotional skills was a turning point in my teaching journey. I had always believed in the importance of emotional support in education, but this project provided me with a structured and evidence-based approach to it. Throughout the project, we engaged in collaborative sessions with educators from partner countries, exchanging ideas on how to create emotionally safe and inclusive classrooms. Inspired by these exchanges, we initiated several in-school activities, such as peer mentoring programs, daily mood check-ins, and emotion-based storytelling activities. I observed students becoming more empathetic, resolving conflicts more peacefully, and supporting one another with genuine care. As teachers, we also held monthly reflection meetings to share observations and continue learning from each other. These changes have contributed to a stronger sense of community in our school. Thanks to SIESEL Erasmus+ project, I feel more equipped to nurture not only the minds but also the hearts of my students. Thank you!

Before becoming a part of the Erasmus+ project, I often found it challenging to express my emotions and opinions, particularly when I was in new or unfamiliar environments. I used to hold back during group discussions and avoided sharing personal thoughts, fearing that I might be misunderstood or judged. However, everything began to change once I got involved in the various activities and exchanges that were part of this project. From the very beginning, we were encouraged to participate actively in collaborative tasks, international dialogue sessions, and reflection-based workshops. These experiences gradually pushed me out of my comfort zone in a supportive and respectful way.

One of the most impactful aspects of the Erasmus+ experience was interacting with students from different countries and cultures. Sharing ideas with them made me realize that everyone has a unique perspective, and that my own thoughts are also valuable. As I listened to their stories and shared my own, I felt a sense of mutual respect and understanding grow between us. This helped me become more open and emotionally expressive. Over time, I noticed a significant increase in my self-confidence. I began speaking more freely, not only during project activities, but also in my daily life at school and at home.

Looking back, I can confidently say that the Erasmus+ project helped me grow not only as a student, but as a person. It taught me that expressing emotions is not a weakness, but a strength and that my voice matters. Today, I feel much more in control of how I communicate my feelings, handle social situations, and build connections with others. Thanks for listening.

Hi everyone! I am Zeynep. 13 years old and 7th grade student at Hamza Yerlikaya Secondary School.
One of the biggest personal changes I experienced during this Erasmus+ project was learning how to be emotionally strong in difficult situations. During the Project activities, there were times when I felt misunderstood, confused, or even a bit lonely. But instead of giving up, I learned to face these feelings with a positive attitude. I started to see every problem as a chance to learn something new and improve myself.

Working with students from different countries helped me become much better at collaboration and cooperation. I learned how to work in a group, share responsibilities, and support my teammates. I also developed more empathy by listening to others and understanding how they felt, even when their background or culture was different from mine. Over time, I built strong trust with my international friends and teachers, and this made me feel more confident and safe.

The project also helped me become more open-minded and tolerant. I enjoyed learning about other cultures, traditions, and ideas. This made me more curious and eager to ask questions and explore new things. I also had the chance to be more creative, especially during group tasks where we had to solve problems in fun and unique ways.

Thanks to SIESEL Erasmus+ project, I now feel more confident, flexible, and ready to face new experiences with a strong and open heart. Thank you!

Hello! I am Rahime. Now, I will share my ideas about our Erasmus+ Project. The most important thing I learned from Erasmus+ was about empathy. I met students from many different countries who had very different lives than mine. This helped me see new ideas and ways of thinking. During activities where we told stories and shared our cultures, I learned that even if we are different, we all feel the same kinds of emotions. I learned to listen carefully to understand other people, not just to answer them. This helped me care more about how others feel. Now, I try to support my friends and family when they feel sad or happy. I think this has made me a better friend and person. Thank you!

Hello! Good evening! My name is Hüseyin Utku. I am 12 years old. I am 6th garde student at Hamza Yerlikaya Ortaokulu. During my Erasmus+ experience, I grew more confident in making careful decisions, both on my own and as part of a team. Many times, while doing social and emotional activities, we faced situations where we had to choose between different options. I learned to think about the results of each choice, listen to everyone's opinions, and decide what would be best for the whole group. These moments taught me the true meaning of responsibility and fairness. I also realized that making mistakes is normal, as long as we learn from them. This way of thinking has helped me a lot in my daily life, whether at school or in personal decisions. Thank you for your attention.

Hi friends! My name is Ceylin. I am 14 years old. I am studying at Hamza Yerlikaya Secondary school.

My Erasmus+ experience helped me understand the true meaning of cultural respect and emotional awareness. Before the project, I had not spent much time with people from other countries. When I joined, I started working and living with students who had different languages, habits, and ways of thinking. At first, some of these things felt unusual or even confusing. But little by little, I started to enjoy learning about these differences.

Instead of judging things I did not know, I became more curious. I asked questions about their cultures, their food, their traditions, and their daily life. I also shared information about my own country and how we do things. These conversations helped me understand that being different is not a bad thing, it is something that makes the world interesting and beautiful.

By being open and respectful, I was able to build real friendships. We laughed together, helped each other, and learned from one another. I started to care more about the feelings of others and became more kind and patient. I also felt that others respected and listened to me, which made me feel more confident and happy.

Now, I feel much more connected to the world. I don’t just see people from other countries as strangers. I see them as possible friends. I also feel more ready to live in a world where many cultures and ideas come together. Thanks to this Erasmus+ project, I learned how to be more understanding, more open-minded, and more caring toward others. These are lessons I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thanks for listening.

Working with partners from Poland, Spain and Turkey on the emotional competency development project has been a truly meaningful and inspiring experience. From the outset, they demonstrated not only a strong intellectual understanding of emotional intelligence, but also a deep personal commitment to fostering emotional growth—both in themselves and in others.

What stood out most was ability to create a safe and open environment for reflection and dialogue. Their empathy was not just spoken—it was felt. Whether facilitating group discussions, offering thoughtful feedback, or simply listening with intention, they consistently showed emotional attunement and respect for diverse perspectives.

Their contributions to the project were insightful and impactful. Brought a balanced combination of theory and practice, often grounding abstract concepts in real-life applications. Their work—be it written, spoken, or demonstrated through action—reflected a genuine dedication to helping others build resilience, self-awareness, and interpersonal understanding.

More than just a participant, was a catalyst for deeper connection and learning within the group. Their presence uplifted others and helped shape the project into a transformative journey, not just an academic or professional exercise.

It’s rare to encounter someone who embodies the very competencies the project sought to develop. I did exactly that—with sincerity, humility, and a remarkable sense of purpose.

Taking part in the SIESEL project through Erasmus+ was a milestone in my professional development. Attending international workshops on social and emotional learning allowed me to gain valuable insights into inclusive teaching practices. What made this project unique was the focus on real emotions—both in students and teachers. I learned how to create space in my classroom for students to talk about what they feel, which has transformed our classroom atmosphere. I now use mindfulness techniques, group check-ins, and activities that promote self-awareness regularly, and I’ve seen a clear improvement in student engagement.

Even though I didn’t participate in the mobility myself, the SIESEL project still had a big impact on my teaching. Students came back more reflective, more willing to express how they felt, and more aware of how others might be feeling. I noticed fewer conflicts in class and a stronger sense of classroom unity. The activities implemented at school, like morning emotion boards or reflective journaling, were simple but incredibly effective. They inspired me to pay more attention to the emotional side of my lessons—even in non-humanities subjects.

I have seen the atmosphere in our school change during the SIESEL project. Thanks to activities carried out on-site—like workshops, open discussions, student-led presentations, and mindfulness breaks—there is more mutual respect between students, and between students and teachers. My pupils are more empathetic, and I find it easier to connect with them. I feel more supported as a teacher because we now talk openly about emotions and mental health. That makes a big difference in daily school life.

The most powerful part of the SIESEL project was that it included everyone. Even teachers who didn’t travel abroad got involved in the implementation. I had the chance to help organise a classroom workshop on recognising emotions through facial expressions and body language. Students were excited, and I was surprised by how much they already understood—and how much they wanted to share. It was a learning experience for me too, and one that reminded me that inclusion starts with listening.

There was a real sense of purpose and collaboration. Students were proud to be involved, and it inspired teachers across subjects to experiment with new methods. The focus on emotions and inclusion created a more compassionate school culture. Students who returned from the exchanges were excited to share what they learned, and their enthusiasm quickly spread to others.

SIESEL helped create a new culture at our school—one that values how students feel just as much as what they know. Although I wasn’t one of the travelling teachers, I had many opportunities to join activities at home. I facilitated a few classroom discussions around emotions and inclusion, and I was surprised by how engaged my students were. It felt like they had been waiting for a space to talk about these things. The project showed me that even simple tools—like a daily check-in or group reflection—can change the atmosphere in the classroom.

Colleagues who took part in the mobilities shared their notes, presentations, and techniques during team meetings, and I started applying some of them in my own lessons. I teach a subject where emotions are not usually a focus, but I realised that students’ well-being affects their performance in every area. Now I try to start each week with a few minutes of reflection or open conversation, and my classroom feels more peaceful and respectful.

SIESEL made our school environment more connected. Before the project, discussions about emotions were rare among staff and students. Now we talk more openly about how we feel, and our staffroom conversations often include new ideas we’ve picked up from the project. I’ve also seen how students who are usually quiet or withdrawn are more willing to participate in group work, because they feel seen and safe. That’s a big step forward.

The SIESEL project became a natural part of our school culture. From the moment we started implementing the activities, I noticed how students began to express their emotions more openly and respectfully. Workshops on emotional intelligence, class discussions, and daily check-ins brought a new depth to our lessons. I also saw a growing sense of belonging among students who had previously stayed on the margins. SIESEL reminded us that emotional well-being is just as important as academic success—and it's now something we include in everyday teaching.

They were given real opportunities to lead, to reflect on their feelings, and to learn how to support one another. The project gave us ready-to-use strategies for building a more supportive environment, and those tools continue to be useful well beyond the official project timeline.
