         <description><![CDATA[<p>I remember her,</p><p>that warm dusty </p><p>smell. She would </p><p>have treats in </p><p>her kitchen just </p><p>for us. there was </p><p>never a dull moment. </p><p>I remember her. I was her </p><p>dolly, I would play </p><p>with her for hours. </p><p>But when it happened </p><p>I thought it </p><p>would all be </p><p>the same. But </p><p>it wasn't. Soft</p><p>sweet memorys </p><p>slipped away but</p><p>still, I will remember </p><p>her.</p><p><br></p><p>Poem written by Heather Losee's granddaughter, recited at Heather's memorial. Heather's response to her Alzheimer's diagnosis was, <em>We'll face this head-on, just like we've faced all the other challenges.</em></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>It breaks my heart that more people aren't educated about dementia and for the most part it's hidden from view.</p><p><br></p><p>It breaks my heart feeling alone; feeling like you have no resources to turn to; feeling like you're not doing enough for your loved one; feeling progressively drained.</p><p><br></p><p>It breaks my heart to not be able to spend more time with my mom because I have and want to work.</p><p><br></p><p>It breaks my heart that professional caregivers are often not paid fairly for the incredible work they do.</p><p><br></p><p>It breaks my heart that people living with dementia are often overmedicated leading to a diminishment of dignity.</p>]]></description>
