The picture from when we were doing our SOAL media Padlet and describing the image and how it related to our given section in the book.

Strengths Shown

-A strength displayed is my ability to connect a part of a book to real-world objects. I showed how I could be given a question or section of a book based on the real world and relate it to the real-world equivalent. My example is an image of an advertisement by the Rathbun and Son logging company which was mentioned in "The Skin of the Lion" novel. I discovered the company was active during the early 1900s, thus giving the timeline a better idea of when that section of the book happened.

-It shows my ability to research topics outside the book to give an idea of when it was taking place. Instead of just reading I was reading for meaning to find anything that could provide a rough estimate of where that section of the book was taking place.

Weakness Shown

-My entry lacks detail. I did not describe the advertisement very well, I did not say where the company was or what they were doing at the time. If I had researched more about the company in the media I could have given everyone a better timeline.

This is an image of my response to the Gangster Capitalism podcast we watched in class. I chose to use this response because I got a 90 making it a strong example of my strengths.

Strengths

-The image demonstrates my ability to listen and respond to a text in detail. It shows how I can listen and form ideas about what they are trying to say like "it suggests a lack of understanding of hard work and lack of motivation to ever learn." The majority if not all my points have evidence like quotes from the podcast to show my understanding of the topic.

-A strength is illustrated through the use of evidence I learned in my listening to the podcast, thereby strengthening my claims. An example is my first line about bribing schools to let your child in, I supported this by finding a quote in the podcast about it robbing the child of being an "independent adult."

-I was able to connect the podcast to the Indian Horse novel we read last year in class. This shows my ability to listen and critically think about how it relates to other things like text, or media.

Weakness

-My experience with podcasts or media in general is very lacklustre, as I typically do not listen to these topics, if I had read, or watched more important media I could have found a more recent or relevant connection in the media. A more recent connection could strengthen my final point because most people will be aware of whats happening in current media.

This is an image of my response to the To BE OR NOT TO BE monologue we watched/listened to.

Strengths

-Though it might lack detail I showed my ability to listen/watch and respond to media. Aside from not specifying the actor or version I watched, I was able to pick up on the actor's facial cues and described them as showing "Disgust and indecisiveness."Indecisiveness."

Weakness

-My response lacks detail, as shown I didn't say which actor I was referring to or the version I watched and responded to.

-I say the actor carries himself a certain way making him this, but I don't explicitly write how he does this, indicating a lack of thought. It shows I didn't understand what the actor was trying to convey or my inability to understand signals other than words.

-I need to reflect on my ability to watch and understand facial expressions, tone of voice, and body movements. I should improve my ability to understand why someone would want to change their face and how it affects the mood of a scene. Why they would change their tone of voice and how it affects the atmosphere of a scene and how it affects the atmosphere. Finally, I need to know how body movements such as swaying or walking slower affect the mood, atmosphere, and overall message that an actor is trying to convey.

This a picture of the power of words and symbols presentation we just did.

Strengths Shown

-A strength is shown through my ability to research and find symbols or slogans in the media that connect to my topic. For this example, I connected the slogan "We're all in this together!", a slogan repeated during the COVID-19 pandemic. I connected it to the speech the mouse Frederick gives to cheer the other mice up.

-My ability to think of topics in the media outside of the book I am reading

Weakness Shown

-I should have added more slogans or phrases from the media to better represent my connection to the book.

-I could have found more known slogans or messages from the media during that time, so more people could better relate.

Strengths

-My ability to grab a photo from the media to represent themes without using words. The example here shows the 4 themes I found in the book I read and represents these themes using photos that show them but don't say them. For example, my photo with the crowd of people with different ideas shows the community and how different people have different ideas which perfectly describes how a community works. The image with the paper clip is trying to show individuality by having a green paper clip separated from the crowd of play ones, it conveys the message that you are different than others in your way. Both images are from the media and don't explicitly say what they mean but instead show it.

Weaknesses

-My third image is not as good as the other 2 as it tells instead of shows, which is not as creative for a presentation.

-I did not get a fourth image for resilience, thus displaying a lack of effort, as I did not spend the time to find an image in the media to represent resilience.
