So he has claws for hands, when he gets invited to the neighbourhood by Peg, it was difficult to do what normal humans can do, such as: eating, dressing up etc. He discovers his talent of tree shaping, being a hairdresser and even invited to being interviewed on a TV show! The scissors he has were first thought to be scary and frightening but when the town finds his talent he seems more helpful and friendly. Acting is a very important role because without it, you can't portray the character you want it to be. Jonny Depp acted as Edward Scissorhands, he had to show facial expressions such as a clueless face when he didn't know how to eat poking his food to find out what he was eating or looking at the waterbed and feeling unsure to see why there was a floppy bed using his claws to poke the waterbed is a body language of curiosity. The expression of being proud when he finish cutting everybody's hair, the expression of angriness when Jim tells him to back off. 
Mise-en-scene
A really good part of the film is when Edward gets told to back off and he takes off his jolly Christmas clothes and goes back to only wearing the black, weird and scary clothes. They are both helped to be something better than what they were in the past.
