Tyler Gregory Okonma or Tyler, the creator was born in Hawthorne, California on March 6th, 1991. Tyler spent his early life living in Hawthorne with just his mother, Tyler hopped around a lot attending 12 different schools throughout his childhood. Tyler and his mom moved to Ladera Heights when Tyler was around 17 years old. Throughout Tyler's entire childhood he had taught himself how to play the piano, this would eventually lead him to create a Myspace account to share his music with other people around the world. Tyler collaborated with several other artists to form Odd Future. The first Odd Future mix tape was released in 2008, 2011 when they established Odd Future as an official record label. Around this time is when Tyler also launched his own clothing line called "GOLF WANG" Tyler while still being apart of Odd Future worked on his own projects such as Yonkers, released in 2010, and his first studio album "Goblin" being released in 2011. The Goblin album was mostly produced by Tyler and featured some members from "Odd Future" Tyler later founded the yearly music festival Camp Flog Gnaw and in 2013 released his second album "Wolf" After this in 2015 he would release his third album titled "Cherry Bomb" which featured artists such as Kanye, Lil Wayne, Charlie Wilson, and Schoolboy Q. Two years later Tyler released his fourth album "Flower Boy" which reached #2 on the Billboard 200 and nominated Tyler for a Grammy. In 2019 Tyler would release "IGOR" his most critically acclaimed album, this album featured Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Pharell Williams, and a few more big names. IGOR hit #1 on the Billboard 200 and Tyler won a Grammy for "Best Rap Album" which he was extremely grateful for.

In 911/Mr. Lonely some lyrics that stand out to me are "They say the loudest in the room is weak
That's what they assume, but I disagree
I say the loudest in the room
Is prolly the loneliest one in the room (that's me)"

These lyrics stand out to me because I really relate to Tyler's humor and he ironically alludes to the loudest person or most extroverted person being the loneliest or the saddest. It's also right at the beat switch which makes the lyrics hit harder. This is one of the first Tyler, the Creator songs I listened too so this song will always one of my favorites no matter how overplayed it gets.

The song Colossus on Tyler, the Creator's "Wolf" album has the lyric "In school I was the one thinking outside of boxes/ so everybody in them would say I got problems" this lyric to me represents Tyler's distaste for school and trying to be what people perceive as normal. Tyler knew that being himself wasn't accepted by others and didn't care, being called weird was proof of his ability to be himself.

Tyler, the Creator when winning the 2021 cultural influence award thanked a brief list of people which included, Kanye, Q-tip, Andre' 3000, and many more. Tyler credits Q-tip's solo work separately from Tribe Called Quest for who he is today, Q-tip shaped the way his music sounds and he says he wouldn't be here without him. Tyler was also inspired by Kanye West who he looks at as a mentor, Kanye guided him to the success that he has today. Tyler also talks about the album "The Love Below" by Andre' 3000 which is one of his favorite albums and main inspirations for his most successful album "IGOR."

Tyler, the Creator - Geography

Tyler the creator lived in Ladera Heights for most of his life, moving there from Hawthorne when he was 12 years old and living there until he was 17 years old. Tyler doesn't reference his hometown in any of his music, nor has he made any connections in his hometown. In interviews, he's said that he hates Hawthorne and Ladera Heights and that he doesn't think his background should impede or have any effect on his work. He still lives in LA but despises the place he grew up in.

Tyler, the Creator in his early hip-hop days would usually wear any pair of skate shoes, jeans, and a clean boxy tee, having grown up in LA and skating all the time this was the natural path his fashion would go. When his albums started gaining more traction he began to express himself more, wearing loafers, jeans, and other items from the brand he created "Golf Wang" Around the release of IGOR he started showing off his tailored suits and would wear them on tour while performing songs from IGOR. Now if you were to see Tyler at a public event or out around town he would most likely be wearing a a sweater, vest, or polo, he'd be wearing jeans and he'd be wearing loafers.
