The story is about a tiger cup which is brought up by a grandfather.The grandfather found the tiger cub in a forest during his expedition camp with other shikaris .The tiger grew up in grandfather house and grandmother named him Timothy.Grandfather become  the favourites of Timothy.He got two companions as he grew up.Toto,the monkey and the mongrel puppy.And the time came when grandfather thought of keeping Timothy in zoo,so he left for lucknow zoo .In the zoo,Timothy was kept near the cage of a leopard.After six months later grandfather directly went to the compartment where he kept Timothy.But there was a different tiger instead of Timothy and grandpa didn't knew about that.So he treated the tiger as hi Timothy and the tiger also show equal love to grandpa as Timothy.Everybody there was shocked by seeing the picture.Later the zoo authorities told grandpa that his Timothy died two months ago.The theme is about the relation,love and affection between a animal and human.

In this section, we get to learn that wild animals do not belong in TO captivity. Animals that

remain in human care cannot fare well in the wild. They even cannot adapt well to the zoos.

Timothy had a proper diet plan framed by the writer's grandfather, which the zoo official

could not follow.

Timothy contracted pneumonia in a few months after he was transferred to the zoo. This tells

us about the condition he was kept in. After Timothy died, the tiger which had been brought

to replace Timothy was considered to be dangerous, but the poor thing was even frightened of

a leopard which was kept in the adjacent cage.

Thus animals lose their wild behavior and yield a significant difference in the behavior once

they are held captive.

Disposition of character:

Grandfather: He was an animal lover. Though, he found a tiger, he did not shoot it rather he 

             took it home and kept him as a pet. He not only loved animals, he also cared for 

             them. He designed a proper diet plan for Timothy and even tamed him in the best 

             possible way.

Grandmother: She was a very conscious lady. She could easily apprehend the changes in behavior

             of Timothy. She even foretold that once with age, Timothy might become a danger

             to the family.

Timothy: Timothy quickly adapted to the homely environment. Intially he was afraid but later

         he mixed well with the crowd. He imbibed all the tiger instincts. Initially he would

         stalk anyone who would play with him, but later his motives changed

         Timothy had clean habits. He became less friendly with age. He would embark on his

         own adventures with what looked like villainous intent.

Toto: Toto was a very mischievous monkey. It would do anything to irritate the tiger.

            paws, absurd dashes at the puppy and then retreat to a safe distance, steal 

            away to stalk someone, licking his arms with increasing relish.

Theme: - This story is about a tiger cub which was discovered by writer’s grandfather. Grandfather brought him up as his own child and named him Timothy. Timothy was accompanied by Toto- the monkey and a mongrel puppy. Timothy was very friendly he used to play with the writer whenever he came. But as time kept running on and timothy grew he became less friendly. When he started stalking Mahmoud- the cook with villainous intent grandfather decided to transfer him to Lucknow zoo. One day grandfather went zoo to meet Timothy. So grandfather went to timothy’s cage and played with him the whole but at last he came to know that the tiger he was playing with was not timothy. He died two months ago. After hearing that grandfather said good bye to that tiger and briskly left out of zoo.

The theme of this story reveals moral character, kind heartedness and friendly nature of the grandfather. Despite being a tiger cub, he brought that tiger cub and treated him as his son.

Background-   The story must have been during the times of 1950’s and 1960’s since during the time the writer was a kid. This story is mainly based upon the changing behaviour of a tiger with the cycle of time.

The story is about a tiger cub, named Timothy. The story conveys a message that we should not alter the environment of a living being. Which can be witnessed from the story itself. Timothy was discovered by author`s grandfather on a hunting expedition in the Terai jungle near Dehra. He planned a proper diet plan for Timothy and tried to make him a domestic animal. But as the time passed, Timothy was not able to adjust with the man-made environment because he was a wild animal. Grandfather realized this fact and so he decided to shift Timothy to the zoo. 

After few months of shifting, Timothy died because of pneumonia. Timothy was replaced by a tiger which was trapped in the hills and was considered to be dangerous but he  wasn`t dangerous because he was frightened of a leopard which was kept adjacent to it.
