Amy discovered really how much she loved South Africa while she was in college at Stanford. With this, she discovered she wanted to dedicate her life into helping others. This is similar to me because I learned in school that teachers can have an influence on many people's lives everyday, so by getting to meet many different wonderful teachers, I discovered I want to become a teacher. We both found our calling in school which will influence the way we live.

When I was young, I read a book about Nelson Mandela and became fan of him. I wanted our country to have a leader who is like Mandela, and I wanted to be a leader like Mandela. We both idolize him and thought of him as a great leader who had the power to do great things.

I personally do not think that I could've handled Amy's situation the same way she did. I couldn't leave America behind and move to South Africa in the first place because it would be hard for me to travel to a place I've never been before not knowing anyone there. I also wouldn't want to move to a country to help change their government like Amy tried to do. I don't know that much about government, nor is it one of my interests. I would however like Amy meet new people and help in any way I could when I have to go to a new place. I also would be able to socialize and I would be interested in their culture to learn more about their society.

I think I cannot handle Amy's Situation. Amy moved to South Africa to help. She fought for the black people for the government reform even though she knew her life could be in danger. I don't think I could move to a country to help people to fight against the government risking my life. I moved to America but Government here is not like South Africa Government used to be. If I had to come to America to fight for the rights, I don't think I would come here.

Once she got to college, she was always so eager to learn more on how she could help people. Daniel wants to go to college to study Nursing, and Rachel wants to study education. Both of our majors we have to work hard to learn so we can help others. Nursing and teaching are both people professions. We can relate to Amy by wanting to work hard in college to help others, so that way people will be better off.

Amy's parents were very forgiving people. They didn't want the worst for the men that attacked Amy, they in fact wanted them to be understood and for them to get help because they had to grow up in apartheid. My parents are very forgiving people as well. This influenced me because I have learned from my parents to forgive people and move past things so that way we can move on with our lives. Amy's parents would have convinced her to forgive her killers. We can relate by having parents that don't hold grudges and the way we've learned to let things go.

After Amy died, her parents created a foundation to help build schools and to help people from apartheid recover. By doing this, they put their money to good use. My parents donate extra money they have to things like the Wounded Warrior Project, church, and to other charities. By doing so, they have taught me that it is important to give back to the community in whatever way is possible. By giving money, both of our parents have shown that overall it is a great idea to share what you have with others to better their lives.

Amy spent her time helping others in a new country without getting anything back. She went around and met new people just because she wanted to make other's lives better. I volunteer working with children with disabilities because I want to better their lives. I don't expect anything back in return, I just have fun doing it. We both work hard for other people to make their lives better. We also both have this motivation of volunteering for others rather than ourselves that keeps us going.
