Chicano 2. El Hoyo 3. Capirotada

Chicano means Mexicano, not caring what part of Mexico you come from, color of skin or what you look like. El Hoyo is a place where the Chicanos come from, where beautiful hearts come from and where hell is raised on Saturday mornings. Capirotada is a known mexican dish that is made many different ways, but we all know what it looks and taste like because at the end it is the same dish made with love and that is what describes a Chicano.

Three things I learned.

-Chicano is the short way of saying Mexicano

-El Hoyos Chicanos help feed the Mexican Army

-While being divided from within and from without, we are still Chicanos

"El Hoyo" clarified to me that the word Chicano is the short way of saying Miciano. I did not know the Chicanos helped feed the Mexican Army when they found out they only ate at infrequent intervals. This shows to me that Chicanos are pure at heart. Again, it clarified to me that it doesn't matter the color of your skin or what you look like, like a capirotada we are all Chicanos.

Identities- The reading "El Hoyo" describes Chicanos identities ins many ways. One of them being when it explains the "capirotada" metaphor. Us as Chicanos might be in different colors or education but we carry the same identity.

History- "El Hoyo" mentions a lot of history and still present thing Chicanos experience. For example, when is describes houses made of simple adobe, wood and abandoned car parts. Many Chicanos still live in places like that or many of our ancestors lived that way.

1. brown 2. "r" rolling tilde 3. true Mexican

The word brown has a lot of meaning to me because us as Mexicans that is how we are "categorized" many people are not ok with it, but I am, I am proud of my skin color. The r rolling tilde means when you can't really pronounce your R's correctly which I struggle with too but in Spanish and in English as well. I want to believe it is a very common problem. Everyone has their own definition of a "true Mexican" some believe you have to be brown or be able to speak Spanish correctly.

They feel less or not from their ethnicity due to now knowing the language. 2 This sentence gave me chills when I read it because I know that feeling. Sometimes we don't give much credit to ourselves and instead we beat ourselves up. 3 Is there a real definition of being a "true Mexican" I guess as long as it mees your own requirements of being a Mexican then we should be good. These 3 sentences really show what Michele has gone through with her pain of wanting to be a "real Mexican"

This story shows Chicana language because it talks about how she suffers from now knowing Spanish well. She talks about feeling dumb and her attempts making her look dumb. I feel like in 5 Chicanos 3 go through that, many of us are not raised in a Spanish speaking home and we struggle once we get older for not knowing the language. The examples she uses of the rolling r's is a big one as well. Everyone has gone through that problem at least once in their lives.
