Stage 1: Trust Vs. Mistrust

Trust vs. mistrust is the concept of whether you will trust or mistrust that your basic needs will be met. My parents provided everything I needed and more to me. There were times when I may not have gotten what I wanted but still got what I needed consistently.

Stage 2: Autonomy vs shame/doubt

Autonomy vs shame/doubt is the concept of whether you will develop a sense of independence in tasks. My parents encouraged a sense of self and never punished me for being wrong. This I feel made me have great independence in most tasks.

Stage 3: Initiative vs guilt

Autonomy vs shame/doubt is whether you will develop a sense of independence in tasks. This goes into the last stage. My parents never punished me for being wrong or unsuccessful. They pushed me to take initiative in all tasks but were never mean when I was unsuccessful.

Stage 4: Industry vs inferiority

Industry vs inferiority is whether you will develop self-confidence in abilities when competent or inferiority when not competent. I always have had a very good confidence in myself. Even when I thought I couldn’t do something I always knew my parents were proud of me and knew I could complete the tasks.

Stage 5: Identity vs Confusion

Identity vs Confusion is whether you will experiment with and develop identities and roles. I always had free reign to express myself and explore all possibilities in life. With this, I feel it really gave me the freedom to be myself and believe in myself.

Stage 6: Intimacy vs isolation

Intimacy vs isolation is whether you will develop intimacy and relationships with others. I am in this stage actively and it is definitely hard to balance work and life. I feel like right now at 22 I am more in the isolation stage, but it is not because I don’t want relationships. It is because I am focusing on school and the things that need to get done first.

Stage 7: Generativity vs stagnation

Generativity vs stagnation is whether you will contribute to society and be a part of a family. I am not at this stage yet, but I hope to be a contributing part of society. I feel like being a teacher is a very good way of doing this as I am preparing the future of the world.

Stage 8: Integrity vs despair

Integrity vs despair is whether you will assess and make sense of life and the meanings of contributions you have made. I am not at this stage, but I hope to look back on all of the things I did in my personal life and in my work life and see all of the positive impacts I made.
