Hi everyone! Welcome to DAY #1 of our adventure!

Here are five pages from my Anything Goes Notebooks that I've "touched" this past week... I've found that I haven't had a whole lot of time to spend in them, but little bits add up. These may or not be finished, but I'm not worried one bit because I can always come back to them. If you want to match them to some of this week's prompts, we have Kara's "Fill a Page with Dots," and two of mine: "Glue Something" and "Draw a bird in a tree with eyes closed."

I started with the Hands prompt and it grew from there. As I cut the hands from the music paper, another message popped out. Organic, Allowing it be what it wanted.

For my prompt I chose what would a bug see, I had in mind my garden and and ended up drawing my olive tree. I really enjoyed this, didn’t use paints and it was so calming to do I did a lot in the afternoon. Still not finished but anytime I want to I can go back into it. The second prompt was printing a photo and cutting it up and collaging didn’t realise it was similar values so not great to look at but it was throughly enjoying to do that is definitely want to try another one.

I am always giving people tissues in my office ( therapy) and it was so fun to create a blessing tissue box . I also really hesitate to write by my art and went for it with non dom hand .

I found a sketchbook that I had used entirely for wiping off gel plate brayer and other tools long ago... so I'm using it for the Anything Goes sketchbook now as background pages. I tried out different materials. Very relaxing!

In addition to the zoom (first two), I also spent time putting color on paper in my larger (blank) sketchbook so it’s not as scary! And I loved the draw-through technique with color. I remember doing that with graphite to make my own carbon copy paper as a kid. Excited to use that more!

I’ve had both of these showing up in my life lately, as symbolic helpers, so it was funny to see them pop up in Carla’s prompt! I put the supersized insect below the bear, in the sense of “the wind beneath my wings.”

The beginning of this week was tough - my kiddo had Flu A with two ER visits and one 911 response due to what was likely fever hallucinations. I started the “light character on a dark bg” prompt, and it became his eyes in the midst of it, wondering what he was seeing, where he was.

He’s back to normal now, having bounced right out of it! Oof.

Experimented with combining 4 mediums- acrylic grabie pens ( those are new to me, thanks for mentioning Carla), neocrayon, watercolor, and pastel pencil. Would love thoughts tips on combining mediums- at any point in the class

A few things from this past week. Lots of watercolor and water pastels, ink, pasting.

One thing I’m appreciating is the awareness that I can revisit and change or cover the things I don’t like. The first one started with markers (hated it), I just covered it in watercolor and ink, wrote in water pastel on the partially wet paper, and it grew into one that I love.

I love this prompt and used a tooth brush to speckle the page in tiny dots to remind me to capture tiny moments. I’ll be toothbrush speckling thru my journal and I will know what to do when I come upon those pages! Tiny moments

Not a poem, but an enjoyable experience combining the result of the color transfer with pen exercise from the 1st zoom, with the cut words from week 3. Even though I didn't start out immediately engaged with either, I was surprised by how satisfying it felt to come up with something unplanned that held and revealed my heart and thoughts.

Carla's mention of the "blue book" and the influence that author's approach had on her, prompted me to buy a used copy of The Art of Teaching Art to Children in School and Home, by Nancy Beal. Reading it led me to Beal's mentor, Lois Lord, with this quote from her describing the "access" I encountered with this class: "Art, Lois Lord observed, offered children a way to connect who they were (their inner selves) with the outside world; she felt strongly every child deserved access to this means of communication".

From the prompts (I'm currently still working on the first set of 10 with the rest waiting in the wings) to the Zoom fun of twisty pencils, and the intrigue of cut words unexpectedly revealing my heart, I've appreciated the wonder and intrigue involved with the inner to outer connections Carla and Kara set up and invited us to experience. Thank You for another dynamic class. Louise
