Challenge: Khan Academy is an awesome resource for educators. One challenge in a high poverty school setting is the lack of iPads or Chromebook for students to use this resource.

The challenges can be met by having using Title 1 funds or writing a grant to fund the technology to be used for this resource.

The benefit is that it is free, fun, and educational for students. It has videos that shows students how to do different tasks. I, personally, have used Khan Academy videos for parents who have a lack of understanding on math instruction.

This resource can provide support for and assist teachers in improving teaching and learning by using it to assist students with concepts at home. It ensures program rigor because it gives step by step instructions and engages students in core subjects.

This resource can ensure equity with students who are not impacted by poverty because it is something that they can use at home and it is fun and engaging. It has videos to explain concepts for lack of understanding for all ages and abilities.

This resource enable students to participate in multiple cultural environments because it is like a tutoring tool to reiterate concepts that have already been taught. It also breaks it down, and gives a visual representation of the concept.

It also has the common core standards with instruction, and if students get something wrong, it gives explanations on how to make it right.

This can be used as a resource to support teaching and learning and ensuring program rigor because it gives teachers the ability to differentiate instruction. If students need to be challenged teachers can assign instruction on a higher grade level, and if students need enrichment, teachers can also find those lessons through iXL.

This resource can ensure equity who are not impacted by poverty and rural location because it provides instruction for students at every level.

This resource enables to students to participate in multiple cultural environments because students have their own personal log in information to access inside and outside of school.

A common challenge for all of these technological resources is funding. The lack of funding to get meaningful resources for students in rural communities will continually be present.

The challenge can be met with title 1 funding for technology, sponsors, or PTA fundraising.

The benefits of this resource in a high poverty setting is it tailors instruction to students based on their learning needs.

This resource provides support to assist teachers in improving teaching and learning and ensuring program rigor because it develops a learning path based on a diagnostic screening test that students take at the beginning middle and end of the year. It also gives data and creates a reachable goal to the next grade level and a stretch goal.

This resource ensures equity with students because it tailors instruction to the individual child. It is also child friendly, and it gives brain breaks in between instructions, practices, and quizzes.

This resource enables students to participate in multiple cultural environments because it can be done at home. It also has resources and a teacher toolkit that teachers can use in instruction and printable resources that students can complete at home.
