He resolves this by joining in George and Lennie's farm because he has money that he can contribute and this idea of the farm gives him another ambition to follow.

Several different characters used a hope, or a dream to comfort themselves in a really hard time in their lives. One of the biggest examples would be when George continues to tell Lennie that they are going to have their own farm with lots of animals.
