This year's election is a great example of social change because it made people from all the US to come together to make change, which resulted in protests, riots, and movements like Black Lives Matter Movement. According to the textbook, "People riot in response to what they see as social injustice..... The cause of most riots is some long-standing anger or grievance." (Macionis, p.491).
https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-53785985

Collective Behavior

According to the textbook, collective behavior “is activity involving a large number of people that is unplanned, often controversial, and can bring about change.” (Macionis, p.490). I have chosen this picture because it shows how a large crowd of the same race has come together to build a movement, the Black Lives Matter Movement. As a result of police brutality african-americans came together to make a change in society, a change for everybody to be treated equally no matter what race, color, or ethnicity a person is or come from.
https://inews.co.uk/news/black-lives-matter-fist-symbol-meaning-black-power-history-raised-explained-432838

Structural- Functionalist Perspective: Modernity as a Mass Society

I have chosen this picture because it sets a good example of what and how someone should be able to accommodate their life to society. Family and education are known to be a big part of today’s mass society but religion and crime are also two big factors that contribute to a mass society. It is up to each individual to try to make these factors fit in their society. According to the textbook mass society “is a society in which prosperity and expanding bureaucracy have weakened traditional social ties.”(Macionis, p.501).
https://revisesociology.com/2016/09/01/functionalism-sociology/

I have chosen this picture as an example of modernity as a class society because it clearly shows how today’s society is divided by the three modern socioeconomic classes the upper class, the middle class, and the working class. “While agreeing that modern societies have expanded to a mass scale, this approach views the heart of modernization as an expanding capitalist economy, marked by inequality.” (Macionis, p.503).
https://medium.com/@mikel_pollard/the-social-class-in-todays-society-4442938ad8e3

I have chosen this picture because it shows how this person is struggling to find their identity meaning they haven't found who they are. In today’s modern society most people especially young teens and adults struggle to find their identity. “Socially diverse and rapidly changing, they offer only shifting sands on which to build a personal identity.” (Macionis, p.505).
https://www.kudetamag.com/blog/2020/7/9/i-look-into-the-mirror-and-i-see-someone-else

I have chosen this picture of Selena Quintanilla because I believe it sets a great example of postmodernity. It sets a great example of postmodernity because Selena Quintanilla died 25 years ago but still today her music, her legacy is still being played by producers by making movies and series about her life meaning that she sets the example of how a person can build their personal identity. According to the textbook, postmodernity is “the transformations caused by the Information Revolution and the postindustrial economy.” (Macionis, p.508).

https://www.insider.com/netflix-selena-quintanilla-series-first-look-video-2019-11
