Isabel misses Ruth severely, and desperately wants to see her again. Memory Moment
The scene of Hickey's hanging is constantly replaying in Becky's head. Because it won't stop, she is left with seeing the vulgar scene in her mind repeatedly, most likely during any task. Seeing this so many times, is making her feel ill, and prone to vomiting. This is most likely out of nervousness that she will have to see this happen again, or the next time, she will be the one hung on the rope. The fact that Isabel barely knows the blacksmith, and he shows empathy and understanding towards her, and even wants to help, shows that not everyone is against Isabel, and there are people are there willing to help her voluntary, and out of pure care. Isabel is furious about Ruth being sold. Ruth is her little sister, and irreplaceable as a human, a friend, and a part of the family. I have a five-year-old brother, and if he'd ever been taken from me, I don't know how I'd carry on. It seems that Madam is brain-washing Ruth in order to make Ruth her "pet." Someone she can dress up, show off, and do whatever she wants with. During this moment Isabel releases that Madam wasn't joking about selling Ruth, but was waiting for the "perfect time." At this moment Lady Seymour is talking to Isabel and telling her how she thought Madam shouldn't have sold Ruth at all. This surprised me because Lady Seymour would always come over when Madam was at some of her worst points. Tough Question
Isabel asks herself a lot of questions during the novel and some are very tough to answer. During this moment Isabel is asking Becky what she should do since Madam had two guest over.
