Today I've learnt a lot about the origin and life of people on Guadaloupe which really made me sad. In the museum everything was shown and displayed very authentically, real and emotional.

The thing I was thinking about the most is that people, even in hard times like slavery, find their ways to be and feel happy. So, the people on Guadaloupe while they were being exploited, used music as a way of communication, unity and emotions... Connected themselves in their sorrow & hard times and continued to nourish tradition with music and rhythm even today. When you cannot find words, music comes...

Ps - I stole Rita's photo from the group with the Forgetfulness tree. There is no way to make people forget who they are and what they carry inside of them (skills, abilities, knowledge, emotions, hope...)

Today I rediscovered some very good music that I hadn't heard for a long time, Miriam Makeba! I listened to Al Green in the shop of the museum. Both representing black culture, black history and power. Black power! I met my idol Nelson Mandela in a new context, on the other side of the Atlantic, Cape Town last year and now Pointe à Pitre.
I've learnt that there is hope and understanding and creativity and impact within and between people who were beaten physically but not spiritually!
In spite of experiencing repeated violence and discrimination in the history you'llalways meet the opposite, the inclusion and the welcoming, the integration and cultures meeting each other and learning from each other.
That'salso what I do from the group, talking and laughing, learning and discovering!
Mona

The visit to the museum left a great impression on me. Words like: slaves, chains, cage, black code - they go to the heart.

In spite of all the suffering, people still found happiness in music. Playing drums, singing and dancing connected them and gave hope for a free life.Even today we are still witness modern slavery. I wonder why this never ends.

Visiting Museum was a very important lesson to me as a human and as a teacher. I was touched again with worlds' injustice. It is so eay to feel comfortable in the very situation we are now as free nations and simply forget the world wasn't always like this, it has got difficult and painfull story behind. Aa a humen I received the important lesson about mutual respect, the need of building selfconsciencious, caring and acting attitude. As a teacher I received the important lesson how important it is to implement these values into everyday practice and teach your pupils to behave this way, too.

Agnieszka

The visit to the museum was amazing and horrifying at the same time. I realised that slavery still exists today, it has just changed its form. How difficult it is for people to learn from history. Today, we also visited the local marketplace where I practised my French and tried some new local food. The taste of the new dishes will remind me of Guadeloupe:)

A visit to the museum was very shocking amd I hope that the past won't repeat. I was ashamed I was white...
I liled the words that Rita said at the beginning - to know, to care, to act and museum gave the purpose amd the meaning to those words.
