Social media also closes the distance between people with social status differences and may not meet or have an intersection without social media. It’s easy to feel unfair and envy when we see others born in a superior condition. In general speaking, social media makes you feel worse about yourself. The purpose of social media was for people to share their special lives and communicate with their close people online, however, as people start to only post pictures and posts that only reflects enjoyable or fancy part of their lives, it seems every people in the social media are happy and living a good life.

Social media negatively affects users’ well-being, because it distances people from reality, leading to loneliness. A growing number of people spend a pyramid of time connecting with friends online through social media platforms such as Facebook. In this case, a significant implication includes social media users connecting less with those around them. The users fail to benefit from social interaction because social media offers a superficial feeling, with many lacking the social connection.

Have you ever been upset about your profile on social media, and used Photoshops to edit the profile several times to make it perfect? Or have you ever felt shame about your body when seeing the ideal body image of models or celebrities on social media? Social media is a very powerful agent of socialization, especially as it relates to teaching values, beliefs, behaviors, and societal norms to people. Social media’s impact on mental health has been the subject of considerable debate. The online virtual world brings us a lot of conveniences and also brings a lot of harm. Some one believe that using social media could lead to positive outcomes, helping the isolated users feel loved and appreciated. Through social media platforms, people can interact, share knowledge and ideas and build personal and professional relationships. While it can be a major distraction, it also provides us with a valuable tool for staying connected and informed.

Others believe that social media can be hurtful for people because of the unrealistic beauty standards. A lot of social media is fake with influencers using filters and other things to make themselves look "perfect". People may not realize the filters and editing that influencers and celebrities use and can make them think they are not near as perfect as these people altering their looks for a social media post. Cyberbullying is very common on social media too. People can easily access people through social media and may bully them perhaps through an anonymous account. Fear of missing out (FOMO) is common, which has even happened to me before. You can see a post by someone and their hanging with a bunch of people and It can leave the viewer feeling bad maybe wondering why they weren't invited.

According to Loren Soeiro’s article, social media is bad for our mental health. Social media can increase our loneliness, undermine our self-esteem, and lead to depression. In general speaking, social media makes you feel worse about yourself.
