When food consumption increases, food production needs to increase, therefore food shortage increases because supply cannot meet demand. For example, the countries that are becoming more developed such as Brazil, Russia, India and china has more money to buy food, food consumption increase, thus in order to meet consumption, production has to increase. The rate of production may not be able to meet demand, resulting in food shortage in poorer countries.

Consumption: LDCs generally has a lower food consumption than the DCs. This is because they do not have enough food resources to go around to feed the citizens properly. This can cause lower productivity and health problems such as kwashiorkor.
Production: Food prouduction can be affected by the place where the crops are growing and the technology. The place where the crops are growing can affect it as if the temperature is lower than 5°C are harder to grow crops. Crops which grow near places such as volcanos generally grow better as the soil is more fertile due to the volcano. Technology also affect it as they can help improve the intensity of food production. Technology such as tractors can improve food production as it increases the efficiency of harvesting and collecting crops

An increase in food consumption typically leads to a higher production, however, if there isn’t enough capital to increase the food production then it will lead to the eventual rise of food shortage, as the demand increases overtime and surpasses the supply, it will be harder to economically stay afloat or recover financially from this as the demand increases overtime, hence as the food consumption increases overtime, the food production will grow or remain stagnant depending on how much capital the country contains to maintain or increase food production, as the demand surpasses the rate of production, there will be a food shortage

Additionally, there are varying factors such as the type of season, whenever winter arrives, people tend to stockpile food supplies as there aren’t many crops that people are able to produce, things like the snow will also reduce the productivity and efficiency of machines and people alike. Reducing the food production and leading to an eventual food shortage if such conditions do not subside.

Drawing glitching so I write:)
When there is a higher food consumption from people, the demand will be higher , hence food production will increase (supply and demand) in order to satisfy the consumers. However when the demand exceeds the supply, there will be insufficient food supply to supply for all the consumers, hence there will be food shortage and some may be left with nothing to eat. So overall they are all related with one another. I love jerry:)

Due to factors affecting food production, the intensity of food production is affected. When food production gets affected it can lead variation in food consumption patterns and this eventually leads to food shortage. Food consumption can vary from DCs and LDCs. When food consumption increases in DCs countries, the food available to the poorer countries decrease. Therefore increasing the food shortage in those less developed countries. For example, a factor affecting food production is climate. It affects the type of crops that can be grown because of climatic factors such a temperature and rainfall affect the growth of plants. A factor that affects people food choices is disposable income. DCs such as USA usually have populations with higher disposable income and so not much money can be spent on food leading to a reduction in amount of food consumed. This in tun affects the food available. Hence LDCs might encounter more food shortages due to this issue. Basically its just when food supply decreases, the food demand decreases hence causing food shortage.
