When there is a higher food consumption from people, the demand will be higher , hence food production will increase (supply and demand) in order to satisfy the consumers. However when the demand exceeds the supply, there will be insufficient food supply to supply for all the consumers, hence there will be food shortage and some may be left with nothing to eat.
