There is no mention of the weather. The narrator notices that grant was shot by the Remington Rifle. They also notice that Grant’s boots were still upright a few feet away. The narrator is one of the four boys. The boys were feeling sorrowful and then were quickly filled with panic.  They were thinking that everybody else killed grant.  We don’t know who the narrator is and we need to know this. Inference: That since shep, the person kate is observing, might have been the killer. That in this short integration. It seems shep is showing remorse.
Thinking: She is thinking this way because, everyone should feel sad. But all the other boys were more skittish than shep. Like he was an outcast in a new kingdom.
