As Matariki draws nearer to appear in the early morning sky before the sun rises to mark the beginning of the Māori New Year, you will be learning karakia, waiata and a few other things to add to your kete matauranga (knowledge basket) so that you can share with your whanau.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU KEEP EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR MĀORI STUDIES IN A CENTRAL PLACE SO THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO USE THIS FOR YOUR FINAL PRESENTATION.

This lesson you will need to learn of by heart to recite the karakia attached, without reading it. The words and an audio clip has been attached below for you to help you learn it.
