The key is to find the balance between customized learning and individualized learning. Rather than specialized learning plans for each individual child (which are very difficult to manage with a classroom of 20+ students), teachers need to customize their teaching to reach the different learning patterns visible throughout the group of students (visual, audio, etc.). Interesting is a focus on socio- technology trends. My biggest take away from this book and other research and readings about 21st Century Learning is the need to develop problem solvers. I m amazed at the lack of effort sometimes put forth by my students. hey quickly raise their hands for help without trying to problem solve themselves. My answer to them is always tell me what you have tried so far. We should keep in mind the list of values that digital natives hold. However, I do have some concerns that if digital natives are only ever given "what they want" or are consistently permitted to make their own choices, they will not have the skills to survive when life doesn't work that way. Some students need more of a "nudge" than others. The students are so excited about the technology, but it sometimes is hard to get them motivated to think on their own. They want the answer right away and don't want to do the work to get it. I think many are afraid to be wrong and we as teachers of this new generation need to work with them to know it is okay to be wrong, but they have to think on their own.
