I am currently working as an EL teacher at Morton East High School. I co-teach in an Earth Science and biliteracy chemistry class. Prior to becoming a high school teacher, I worked as a bilingual, special education pre-school teacher at Sherlock Elementary in Cicero for 4 years. 
Fun fact: I was a former student at the elementary I taught and a former student at the high school I currently teach at. I am very passionate about working with students who have Spanish as their first language and are in the process of acquiring a second language. I think that is has been especially important to have students feel comfortable and welcomed in the classroom. It is essential to have students feel respected, valued and part of the learning community. Working with high school students has allowed me to provide students with the social emotional support and resources needed to have them be successful. Aside from teaching content effectively, it is also important to create a positive learning environment for all students.

I prefer to use visuals and videos to learn about new topics. As a former pre-k teacher and now EL teacher I see the importance of using visuals to have students learn a second language. As a student who has English as second language myself, I have learned more about the way I learn the best. I tend to write down information add pictures or drawings to be able to better grasp concepts.
