The children hate going to school to learn because the teachers hate going to school to teach. Fred is eager to meet her new teacher that just flew in and test the water to see just how long this one might be sticking around. She notices very quickly that this teacher is nothing like the rest. She has a funny accent and drinks milk in her tea. When school starts again, this teacher throws out all of the school books and put a HUGE map on the wall from floor to ceiling. She even asks the students what they want to learn about and teaches each students in a way that they like to learn. Fred and her classmates never want to leave school and are so eager to learn more and more from Mis Agnes. We used to think we were something, but then she told us all he things that were bigger than us, the universe and all that, and then all the things that were smaller. Too small to even see. So people were sort of in between, not big or small, just in between. That was a really interesting thing to think about."

This book has not only a great story, but so many good insights of living in the "Alaskan Bush".
