A Kindergarten Comedy Show

After completing the Superkids Unit on jokes and riddles, Kindergarten students researched their own jokes at home. They wrote them on a sheet, learned their joke, and delivered them on a homemade stage in our classroom to their peers. We even had a microphone to speak into!

Who Let the Chickens Out!?

Matthew hicks and I applied for, and won, the "Voya Unsung Heroes" grant. This allowed us to raise chickens from egg to mature chicks in the classroom and backyard of the school. This link outlines the experience learners had. During COVID, I took the unit into my house and shared our journey over facebook and class dojo so students and their families did not miss out on the experience!

Reading at the Rock Foundational Literacy Camp

I have created, directed, and executed the Cabell County Schools Reading at the Rock Foundational Literacy Skills Camp every year since 2019. Each year the camp hosts up to 50 learners entering Kindergarten and 1st Grade to prepare learners for the coming school year! This is the advertisement video that we sent out the first year the camp happened. =)

The Indians Cupboard Food Pantry

In 2016, Matthew Hicks and I were awarded the Fuel Up to Play 60 grant. With this funding, we established an indoor recess space for our school AND The Indian's Cupboard Food Pantry. While the indoor recess space has since dissolved, our food pantry has grown and expanded to a large classroom with a hygiene, household item, and school supplies closet. We also give out free puzzles and games, and work in tandem with Facing Hunger Food Bank and several other community partners to maintain our program. We service over 200 individuals from the Salt Rock Community each year. The photograph in this image is a hyperlink to our facebook page!

Love Your School Food Drive

Each year, I assist in the coordination and execution of the "Love Your School Food Drive" where Salt Rock Elementary Students compete to see who can collect the most items for The Indian's Cupboard Food Pantry. Each year, we collect over 2,000 specific items for the food pantry! This video is from our Can Wars food drive in 2021. Other themes have included: Love Your School/Valentines, Fanstastic Beasts/ Harry Potter, and Can-O-Saurs (Jurassic Park/Dinosaurs.) The current planned theme for the 2025 is SOUPER Heroes (Marvel.) This school-wide initiative is also a PBL activity as students collaborate to record their results on a school-wide bulletin board graph and the totals are shared on our school social media platforms twice daily to help keep family and communities informed.

The Salt Rock Elementary Holiday Auction

For 3 years, I have coordinated and executed the Salt Rock Elementary Holiday Auction. Each classroom designs and creates their own student-made holiday-themed items. The first year, we used our STEAM abilities and to create "holidays around the world" trees and lights displays. The 2 years following, we have let the students STEAM creativities run wild and the products our students make are phenomenal!!! This auction raises thousands of dollars for our school annually. This video is a segment of some of our student-made items that were in the auction in 2023.

I was selected as a Leader in Learning to serve as the district Kindergarten representative on the Cabell County Schools Elementary Math Textbook Adoption Committee in 2024. I worked closest with Douglass Penn from Explorer Academy to review and critique materials for Kindergarten and 1st Grade for the district.
