When Darwin wrote On the Origin of Species, he was in his 20's when he began writing it and published it in 1859. However, 1859 didn't have the advanced technology we have today. He wasn't able to look at animals' DNA or even our own DNA. He didn't even heckin' have any idea that mutations could occur and alter our DNA, or that switch DNA existed. Darwin has/had a lot to learn about it. We wouldn't know any of this stuff if it wasn't for Darwin.

Since Darwin passed, humankind has made many advancements off of his idea of evolution. At first nobody believed Darwin when he said humans are closely related to chimps and evolved from them. Now, almost everybody believes that humans evolved from chimps, but how? Most of your DNA isn't for coding proteins, it is for switching on or off other genes. A mutation in a switch occurred so the human jaw muscle got smaller and weaker so the brain can grow. Apes still have their jaw muscles very strong so their brains can't grow as big as human brains. The human brain can grow until the age of 30, while the chimpanzee's brain can only grow until 3 or 4. Humans share almost a 99% DNA match with chimps. I think Darwin was really smart and cool.

In class we learned how the process of evolution worked and how Darwin thought that all organisms had a common ancestor. For example, the phylogenetic tree is an example of evolution because it shows the process of evolution and how things are related to one another. We also learned that as evolution happened animals could adapt and/or lose limbs. The video states that a whale came from a land animal because of the bones it has in its body. Even though they don't have four limbs like their ancestors they still have some of the bones that they had when they had 4 limbs. When Darwin traveled to the Galapagos Islands he wasn't expecting to invent speciation or discover evolution he was just there to collect. He became one of the most important scientists to ever live. Animals that Darwin saw at the islands were very interesting like for example, there was a type of Finch that had a bulky big beak. But on the other islands in different living conditions there are Finch's that have thin long beaks for getting into flowers. There is so much more that Darwin didn't know but this shows how far we have come in our understanding of evolution and natural selection.

Charles Darwin was a Naturalist that was born on Feb 12, 1809. He came up with the theory of evolution. He believed that all living organisms descended from a common ancestor and that all of life was related. He went to the Galapagos as a collector and found many fossils, some of them included dinosaur fossils. He also found bird fossils on each island that had different beaks. He thought that they were just different species but then he found out that all of the birds that he had found were alike. Only the beaks were different, some birds had bigger beaks, some had smaller and some had thicker. He came to think that SOMEHOW, all of the birds had evolved. But he didn't know how. He studied more fossils he had collected and looked at the dinosaur fossil. He was surprised when he saw that the dinosaur fossil was almost identical to the bird ones. There was another proof/evidence that all life was related. He found out that different species had evolved for their own survival. Ex: Strong beaks must have been for birds that lived on islands where seeds were the common food source, the strong beaks must have been used to crack seeds. Only the organisms that evolved to fit the circumstances for survival would have lived on. He called this natural Selection. He published his work but it was not complete. He still didn't know the answers to some questions. But thanks to our technologies, we can continue Darwin's research. For Ex: Darwin Never knew about DNA and genes.

Darwin didn't have the tools that we have today that we use to understand the genetics of animals. an example of this is that we have learned that humans share ninety nine percent of their D.N.A with chimps. Even without the technology we have today Darwin was able to create this theory and find the evidence through fossils and looking at the animals at the Galapagos islands.

In This film, we start of by learning about Charles Darwin. As a child, he enjoyed playing outside and exploring the truly wonder full earth. his father was a rather successful physician. his mother helped around the house. Darwin was going to become a doctor. he saw a surgery practice on a baby (take note that there is a lack of medical understanding at the time) and after that vowed he would never be involved in the medical industry. he then began to take interest in sciences and by his mid twenty's was and Young man with a degree in nature sciences. he was a bright young man and he was then offered a trip to observe south american animals that would change the word biology forever. he noticed that the animals would look different depending on were they were born. when he went home with a few specimens that he had collected. his mind began to race. he later wrote the book "origin of species " that is now iconic and was a crazy game changer. with modern science we can now understand what evolution is.

Darwin was an amazing and intelligent person who traveled to the galapagos islands when he was in his 20's. What he discovered was mind boggling. All the animals were different on each island but only by a little. For example he saw that the birds were all perfectly adapted with a beak for the environment they were in. Some had a beak for crushing nuts and some for getting nectar. He had an idea that only the birds that could survive and eat the food would survive to pass down the trait. But what he couldn't explain is exactly how the beaks changed. He didn't know what could happen to change into a diverse population of these example birds. What we Darwin never knew was about DNA and how a little mutation could change a fish into a bird.

He went to the Galapogos as a collector and when he got back from his trip he started thinking about how the finches on the different islands. He observed that they were mostly alike but how their beaks were different based on which island they were from. That's when he thought up natural selection and how species adapt to their environment. Since he was alive great progress has been made in understanding evolution. So far we have decoded the entire human genome. Now we can compare our DNA to other animals DNA. Since his time we also know about switch DNA the part of our DNA that turns on and off certain genes. We also know more about our brains and how they grow which was a big mystery to Darwin.

In the video What Darwin Never Knew, they talked about biological evolution and every little thing involving it. This video showed Darwin's remarkable discoveries. His biggest idea was the phylogenetic tree, which to this day helps many scientists with the idea of evolution. The video talked about Darwin's brilliance and what lead him on his amazing journey to create the idea of biological evolution. As smart as he was, there were still things to be discovered. Darwin did still have questions even he could not answer. For example, the video shared much about genetics and how there is a great difference in all the living things we see today on Earth. Still to answer these questions, scientists have to go back to Darwin's ideas. With all the technology we have now scientists are getting closer and closer everyday with experiments with DNA and more. 150 years ago is when Darwin's biological evolution idea came along, now it is the explanation for life. Thanks to him we have a reason for the diversity of life.

So he got to work and he would swaub himself and look at his DNA alot and other animals. he also found how every organism had a ansestor in common. Many years later diffrent scientist went to island to study they knew was going to take sometime beucuse there are over 2,000,000 diffrent species they tested the same animal on 3 diffrent island and and for the diffrent islands and enviorment the species changed the birds had diffrent beeks and the tertles had diffrent shells the birds beeks were change based on how they lived they would have thin beeks for eating flower pollin have thicker beeks if they ate hard nuts or seeds. and some scienctits found out how some animals over a very long time either add parts or lose some limbs. they add or lose limbs based on what they need to survive. some people didnt beleve that humans are very a like. scienctists say he was only the begging of what they discoverd.

We discovered bits of our DNA called switches that turn on the genes that make proteins. In addition, we discovered sections of our DNA that throw the switches, which activate the protein making genes. The fact that we can look at animal DNA and our own DNA is in itself a very impressive accomplishment. We also discovered Tiktaalik, the transitional fish fossil which provides evidence that all four legged creatures are related to fish. And that the bone plates of our skull are not fused together like that of an apes, allowing space for a larger brain. A mutation occurred in the jaw muscle, it was smaller than an apes, and we chew with less force than an ape, which allows for that space for our brains. Darwin really helped us expand our understanding of evolution. It is kind of sad he didn't get to see any of these advancements.

Since Darwin's time in the field of evolutionary biology, a lot has been newly discovered. Darwin knew that animals changed but not quite how. Now days from the many discoveries that have been made we know that as time passed animals adapted. As adaption was made new generations of the same species appearances were changed. One reason being mutations. Darwin realized not everybody was the same but there was variation. Darwin was the founder of the phylogenetic tree. On his trip to the Galapagos Islands he realized how some of the same creatures looked different from each other. For example, he saw the different types of beaks different birds had. He came to the idea that as several generations evolve new species are made causing evolution.
