The brand's slogan 'so simple' is played upon, Schofield is presented as the 'good joe' (Klapp, 1962), playing with a puppy and providing the we buy any car customer with simple and quick solutions, so they can have more time to play with puppies too.

Nevertheless, both of these television commercials add to the comedic component of Schofield's star image. For example, motorbike stunt riding at his mature age could be seen as humorous, which supported by his sigh of relief following the stunt, saying 'I still get flashbacks'. Similarly, an insight into Schofield's living room while he is in his dressing gown and pyjama's may be seen as comical. 

Additionally, the tone of both advertisements also helps construct the 'ordinariness' element to Schofield's star image. By this, I am referring to Schofield narrating "Phillip Schofield here" at the beginning, (as if the audience wouldn't already have recognised his voice due to his TV royalty and star status). Lury (2001) concludes that regional presenters like Schofield embody many contradictions, and their performances are a 'cover-up'. She writes, for example, that such performers are "at once knowing and friendly, open and polished, they include and charm their audience" (p.114). Such claims aline with Schofield in that his 'ordinariness' through social media (and relaxed format of This Morning) could be seen as an image-strategic move to make him seem more relatable and ordinary to fans. 

Lury also comments on on-screen relationships between presenters. Holly and Phil are well loved as a pair, and it can be suggested that they look to each other "(play off one another, and visibly appreciate each other's performances) so that at moments they may enter into a music hall or vaudeville style" comedic performance (p.115). However, despite how comedic the routine is, it is still constructed and challenges claims of ordinariness and authenticity.
