Biography: Augusta was born 1892 in green cove spring Florida and died in New York in 1962. she was the seventh out of fourteen children.when her father found out about her interest in art he despise it and whipped her four or five times a week because of it. in 1919 a local potter gave her some clay so she made a sculpture and entered it in the county fair and one a prize and the ribbon of honor.

One of her best art work is on she made in 1920 called Gamin which is a portrait of her nephew. in 1939 she made another sculpture called The Harp which is a couple of African Americans lined up as a harp.

In the Harlem renaissance she became sculpture,art teacher, and a community art program director. here is one famous quote from"I have created nothing really beautiful, really lasting, but if I can inspire one of these youngsters to develop the talent I know they possess, then my monument will be in their work."
