Love the cast of characters in this book! As Wavie is dealing with the death of her mother she gets sent to live with an aunt she's never heard of. While she's in Conley Hollow she tries to live by the words her mom left her with ... "You got as much right to a good life as anybody, so find it!"   The sense of community in the Holler is undeniable and makes it place I wish I could visit. The narrator is engaging and funny. The illustrations are quirky. There were lots of surprising facts I didn't know - all carefully placed to move the reader to a big understanding - a life lesson we must not forget. First, it mixes in nonfiction tidbits throughout the story. Did you know that an owl can hear a mouse's heart beating under a foot of snow? So cool. It's set in 1901. You can't go wrong with historical fiction. The author uses great word choice - I learned several new words - buffeting, jess and horked (I plan on adding horked to my everyday vocabulary). It features a strong and smart female main character who is doing what she loves. Finally, it's part of a series!
