I teach advanced ESL in the Noncredit ESL program at MiraCosta College in Oceanside. The last tool I used was Pronto, a text-messaging system, to communicate homework reminders to my class. I chose it because all my students have phones and text, and research with adult learners shows that this is a simple way to nudge students, motivate them, and encourage persistence. We have Pronto at my school, and students are automatically enrolled. Privacy is maintained because no phone numbers are exchanged. Students can use the app in Canvas as well. We ❤️ it!

I am an ESL Instructor and Online Faculty Mentor Facilitator at San Diego College of Continuing Education. I teach a Beginning High ESL class. The last tool I used was Quizlet for teaching vocabulary in my class. I also used Padlet map for the students to introduce themselves.

ESL at Santiago Canyon College. The last tool I used is Adobe Podcast, which I use to create my dictation sentences that I put in Canvas. I think it's still in Beta and is free. The UI leaves a lot to be desired, but it does a great job of removing background noise and making professional-sounding recordings.
